FluidLogic is a go-to system for professional and recreational drivers in a wide range of driving classes. The company makes products to optimize your hydration that have been tested in the most demanding environments for humans who demand their absolute best performance. Pulse 2.0 interviewed FluidLogic CEO Sara Blackmer to learn more about the company.

Sara Blackmer’s Background

Could you tell me more about your background? Blackmer said:

“I am a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, serving as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer. I earned my BSE in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan, and I hold an MBA and an MS in Global Supply Chain Management from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. I’ve also completed multiple post-graduate leadership and professional courses.”

“In addition to my role at FluidLogic, I’m a Senior Partner at Solyco Capital, where I lead strategic initiatives and operational excellence across our Private Equity portfolio, focusing on autonomous systems, energy, cybersecurity, and advanced technology.”

“I have had the honor of serving on various boards of advisors and directors, including the Robotics Technology Consortium Executive Board, the National Advanced Mobility Consortium Executive Board, and the boards of the Oakland University School of Engineering and Computer Science, the University of Michigan M-TRAC Transportation Executive Board, Intel Corporation Board of Advisors, and the NVIDIA Corporation Advisory Council.”

Formation Of The Company

How did the idea for the company come together? Blackmer shared:

“Peak performance hinges on the smallest details – and hydration is no exception. At FluidLogic, we’re challenging everything you think you know about hydration. We all know we need water, but let’s face it: we’re not great at staying properly hydrated, especially during intense activities. Traditional methods rely on thirst, which is a sign that you’re already dehydrated. For high-performance individuals, whether you’re racing a car or running a company, this approach just doesn’t cut it. That’s where our Active Hydration system comes in.”

“We’ve developed a game-changing solution that delivers personalized, on-demand hydration. Our advanced technology and proprietary sweat loss algorithms work in tandem to provide precise doses of water at scientifically proven intervals, all at the touch of a button. It’s not just about drinking water; it’s about strategic hydration that maintains peak physical and cognitive performance, even in the most demanding conditions.”

“We started in motorsports, but our vision extends far beyond. We’re expanding into motocross, mountain biking, dirt biking, trail running – anywhere endurance meets excellence.”

Favorite Memory

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Blackmer reflected:

“It has to be our internal ‘Testa Fiesta’ events. Once in 2023, and now once again in 2024 our entire internal team has tested our future product as a team on the trails. Product design and engineering, packaging, user onboarding, software tests, teambuilding, and physical fitness all rolled into one!”

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Blackmer explained:

“Right now, FluidLogic offers in-vehicle and tactical hydration systems to those in the professional motorsports industry and the military. The in-vehicle Pro Racing Hydration System is designed for professional motorsports, including NASCAR Trophy Truck, IndyCar, etc. It connects a water receptacle via a fluid line that magnetically connects to a fluid port in the driver’s helmet, delivering precise hydration based on individual physiological metrics such as height and weight, as well as environmental factors like outside temperature, and humidity.”

“This system has proven to maintain optimal hydration throughout races, lower drivers’ core temperatures, and improve lap performance by 3-9 seconds per lap! Our Tactical Vehicle Hydration System is a plug-and-play vehicle kit tailored for military and Air Force applications. It connects head-worn accessories, ensuring personnel remain hydrated and perform at peak levels during missions. Both systems are integral for enhancing performance in high-stakes environments. We will also be expanding our offerings to the consumer market in early 2025.”

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Blackmer noted:

“FluidLogic’s technology is evolving everyday and we are excited to use this new funding to fuel our research and development of our Active Hydration™ technology and sweat loss algorithm for even more precise and tailored hydration and performance results. Most recently, our team has been working on making key improvements to the in-vehicle system which will be more reliable, compatible, and advanced with adjustable hydration delivery, automatic system priming, easier helmet installation, etc.”

Customer Success Stories

When asking Blackmer about customer success stories, she highlighted:

“Jimmie Johnson, the winningest stock car driver in history, is a FluidLogic user. Johnson shared, “FluidLogic has been a staple of mine since Day 1, and is a critical element of my success.” As a longtime user and proud investor, he has witnessed the evolution of the hydration system from its origins in off-road racing to its adoption in NASCAR and IndyCar. This year, Johnson’s #84 Carvana race car, equipped with the FluidLogic hydration system, has also gained attention as a popular display at events, serving as a testament to the system’s impact in the racing world.”

Funding

When asking Blackmer about the company’s funding details, she revealed:

“FluidLogic recently announced a Series A Extension funding round of $15 million led by Solyco Capital, a private equity firm delivering capital solutions for late-stage startups and growth companies.”

Total Addressable Market

What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Blackmer assessed:

“Our mission is to hydrate humanity so our long term TAM is truly about 8 billion humans on earth.”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Blackmer affirmed:

“I’ve learned that true innovation isn’t just about creating something new – it’s about solving real problems in ways no one else has. That’s exactly what we’ve done at FluidLogic with our in-vehicle hydration system; we’ve developed a groundbreaking approach that goes beyond simply providing water. Our system is smart – it accurately predicts a driver’s sweat loss, prescribes a tailored hydration protocol, and delivers precise water doses at specific intervals. When it’s time to hydrate, the system alerts the driver, ensuring optimal performance throughout the race.”

“We are creating an entirely new market category with Active Hydration. Our sweat loss algorithm and Active Hydration™ technology is completely novel and new.”

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future company goals? Blackmer concluded:

“FluidLogic’s future gives me an overwhelming sense of excitement and purpose. Our journey, which began in the high-octane world of motorsports, is accelerating into new and diverse markets. But make no mistake – this expansion is about so much more than just business growth.”

“As someone who’s led teams in both military and corporate environments, I know first-hand the critical role that optimal hydration plays in decision-making, endurance, and overall effectiveness. That’s why I’m so passionate about bringing our technology to as many people as possible. As we step into new markets, we carry with us the same commitment that has driven us from day one – to revolutionize hydration and empower every individual to perform at their absolute best. The future of FluidLogic is bright, but more importantly, it’s purposeful.”
