Forbion raised €2.3 billion ($2.6 billion) across two new investment funds, marking the largest fundraising in the life sciences venture capital firm’s history.
The fundraising exceeded its original target and brings Forbion’s total assets under management to approximately €7.5 billion.
The capital was raised for Forbion Growth Opportunities Fund IV and Forbion Ventures Fund VIII.
Together, the funds are expected to finance approximately 30 biotechnology companies.
Initial investments have already been completed.
Investors include MN, PGGM, KfW Capital, Kauffman Foundation, Eli Lilly and Company, and other existing and new institutional investors.
Growth Opportunities Fund IV will primarily target later-stage biopharmaceutical companies in Europe and North America developing therapies for areas of significant unmet medical need.
Ventures Fund VIII will invest in therapeutics-focused biotechnology companies, including established businesses and newly created ventures built around promising assets and experienced teams.
Over its 20-year history, Forbion has financed 142 companies, including 37 businesses created by the firm.
Portfolio companies have produced 21 approved medical products that have reached more than 1.6 million patients globally.
