Ford Motor Company has announced it named Jim Farley as the chief operating officer. And Ford Motor Company also revealed that the president of automotive Joe Hinrichs is retiring.
“Jim Farley is the right person to take on this important new role,” said Hackett in a statement. “Jim’s passion for great vehicles and his intense drive for results are well known. He also has developed into a transformational leader with the imagination and foresight to help lead Ford into the future.”
Farley is now reporting Ford president and CEO Jim Hackett. And Farley — who was previously president of new businesses, technology, and strategy — has been considered a potential successor to Hackett. Farley oversees all of Ford’s global markets and automotive operations such as product development, procurement, manufacturing, marketing, etc. Plus Farley also oversees Ford Smart Mobility, Ford Autonomous Vehicles, and the partnership with Argo AI.
Between 2015 and 2017, Farley served as executive vice president and president of Ford Europe, Middle East and Africa. And in that role, he led Ford’s business transformation in Europe by executing the plan to achieve profitable growth through a focus on new products.
When Farley was appointed to lead global marketing sales and service in August 2010, it was the first time Ford had a single global leader for Marketing, Sales & Service. Plus he also held operating responsibility as the senior global leader for Lincoln between December 2012 and August 2014.
Before that, Farley served as group vice president of global marketing and Canada, Mexico, and South America. The he had added responsibility for Ford’s operations in Canada, Mexico, and South America in September 2009.
Prior to joining Ford in November 2007, Farley was the group vice president and general manager of Lexus where was oversaw sales, marketing, and customer satisfaction activities for Toyota’s luxury brand. And Farley had previously served as group vice president of Toyota Division marketing and was responsible for all Toyota Division market planning, advertising, merchandising, sales promotion, incentives, etc.
In 1990, Farley had joined Toyota in the strategic planning department and worked in several product and marketing positions in the United States and Europe. He has been credited for the successful launch and rollout of Toyota’s new Scion brand.
