- Foursquare recently announced that it is promoting David Shim to CEO of the company. Shim is succeeding Jeff Glueck.
The board of directors of Foursquare recently announced the appointment of David Shim as Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board, effective immediately Shim was previously the founder and CEO of Placed and he joined Foursquare as President in June of this year following the closing of Foursquare’s acquisition of Placed from Snap — which is a deal led by TMT-focused global merchant bank The Raine Group.
Shim is succeeding Jeff Glueck — who will be leaving at the end of this year to explore new opportunities. While under Shim’s leadership, Foursquare will continue to build upon its momentum as the leading independent location technology platform, which drove over $100 million in record revenue this year. This includes further investments into core product offerings — Placed powered by Foursquare, Developer Tools, Data Solutions and Pinpoint—for its 1,000+ advertisers and brands and the 150,000+ developers who rely on Foursquare technology.
“This has been a monumental year for Foursquare. I’ve described it as building the 100 Club: a record $100 million+ in revenue, $100 million+ in new investments, reaching a 100 million+ points of interest and 100 million+ devices measured on a monthly basis. In 2020 and beyond, Foursquare is set to further accelerate growth on the foundation set in the past year, and expand its leadership position in location technology. Foursquare’s future is as bright as it’s ever been, and I am thrilled to be appointed as CEO,” said Shim.
And the company will also expand its commitment into Foursquare Labs — which is Foursquare’s R&D arm focused on inventing next-generation location technology — led by executive chairman and co-founder Dennis Crowley.
“It’s been an honor and privilege to work with Jeff,” added Crowley. “We’ve come incredibly far in the past five years since he joined Foursquare. I am incredibly thankful for the progress we made under his leadership, and I wish him the best.” Crowley pointed out that as a fellow founder, he has “enormous respect for David Shim and his accomplishments.”
“We are tremendously excited to partner with such innovative founders in David and Dennis as they accelerate the next chapter of the company’s growth and continue the legacy of industry leadership in enterprise location software. We have gotten to know David well over the course of the past year and look forward to the tremendous leadership skills and track record of achievement he brings to the role. We would also like to thank Jeff for his dedication to Foursquare over the past several years and wish him well in his new endeavors,” explained Gary Little, Managing Director of The Raine Group and member of the Foursquare board.
