Frontier Airlines To Install Starlink On Fleet Beginning In Early 2027

Frontier Airlines has announced an agreement to equip its aircraft with Starlink, SpaceX’s low-Earth orbit satellite broadband service, with the first Starlink-equipped flight planned for early 2027. The deal is part of a broader commitment by Indigo Partners — Frontier’s private equity owner — to deploy Starlink across more than 1,000 aircraft operated by its portfolio airlines worldwide.

In addition to Frontier, the Indigo Partners airlines participating in the rollout include Wizz Air in Europe, Volaris in Mexico, JetSMART in South America, and Cebu Pacific in the Philippines. The coordinated deployment represents one of the largest single commitments to next-generation inflight connectivity globally. The connectivity system will be managed directly by Starlink rather than through a third-party inflight connectivity intermediary — a structure that differs from most existing airline WiFi arrangements.

Starlink’s low-Earth orbit constellation is designed to deliver lower latency and higher speeds than traditional geostationary satellite systems, supporting HD streaming, video calls, online gaming, and productivity applications in flight. Beyond the passenger experience, Frontier noted that the system will provide gate-to-gate connectivity for pilots, flight attendants, maintenance teams, and ground operations — extending the operational benefits of the installation beyond customer-facing use cases.

For Frontier, the Starlink announcement is part of a broader product investment push that also includes the introduction of First Class seating and enhancements to its loyalty program — a notable shift for a carrier that has historically competed almost exclusively on price. Indigo Partners, based in Phoenix, is a private equity firm focused on global air transportation investments.
