Fulcrum And Slalom Partner To Bring AI-Powered Workflows To Utility Field Operations

Fulcrum and Slalom are working together to help electric, gas, water, and wastewater utilities deploy artificial intelligence across field operations and broader business transformation initiatives.

The collaboration combines Fulcrum’s field operations management platform with Slalom’s AI strategy, transformation, and implementation capabilities. The companies are targeting utility organizations that want to improve the quality of frontline operational data, automate workflows, and measure the business impact of AI investments.

Fulcrum said fragmented data remains a significant barrier to effective AI deployment in utilities. Field information is often spread across specialized mobile applications, spreadsheets, paper forms, and other disconnected systems, limiting the ability of enterprise AI tools to analyze operations accurately.

Fulcrum’s platform is designed to consolidate field work into a single system for running, recording, and closing out activities. Slalom will help utilities determine where AI can deliver the greatest business value, redesign processes around those capabilities, integrate AI with existing enterprise systems, and measure the results.

One area of focus is AI directly within field operations. Fulcrum’s Audio FastFill capability converts field workers’ spoken observations into structured form entries, while Fulcrum Insights lets office teams ask plain-language questions against field data.

Teams can also use AI to create new workflows on Fulcrum by describing the tool they need. Those applications inherit the platform’s existing security model, permissions, GIS capabilities, and offline synchronization.

The companies are also positioning trusted field data as a foundation for broader enterprise AI initiatives. Fulcrum validates records when they are captured and links them to a specific location, time, and user. Utilities can use that information to monitor material installations, inventory consumption, loss and breakage, asset maintenance, and other operational patterns.

As historical datasets grow, the companies said the same information can support anomaly detection and predictive models for use cases including infrastructure maintenance and vegetation management intended to reduce wildfire risk.

Slalom’s AI Value Platform will also be incorporated into the collaboration to help utilities prioritize AI projects and quantify potential returns. Slalom’s 2026 Global AI Insights Survey found that 91% of organizations plan to increase AI investment in 2026, but only 39% currently track return on investment.

Fulcrum serves nearly 3,000 companies across electric, gas, water, and wastewater utilities and their service providers. Customers use its platform for asset management, vegetation management, linear construction, disaster recovery, and emergency response.

KEY QUOTES:

“Utility leaders are being asked to invest in AI and to prove it pays off, and in field operations the payoff happens in the field. Slalom helps utilities decide where AI will make the biggest difference and measure what it delivers. Fulcrum replaces the many narrowly scoped field apps and all the pen and paper with a single platform for field operations, so AI gets the whole job to work on, not one slice of it.”

Jim Grady, CEO Of Fulcrum

“Utilities are increasingly investing in AI as they respond to rising energy demand and prepare for more frequent extreme weather events and emergencies. Slalom brings the industry perspective and transformation experience to help utilities turn trusted field data into AI-powered operations, integrated with existing enterprise systems they rely on. Together with Fulcrum, we enable utilities to provide crews and leaders with defensible information to act with confidence and deliver critical work safely and reliably.”
