FYLD: Interview With Co-Founder And CEO Shelley Copsey About AI-Powered Infrastructure Field Work

FYLD is an AI-powered platform designed to turn frontline infrastructure work into operational intelligence. Field teams capture short videos rather than completing static forms, and FYLD analyzes conditions to identify safety, quality, and delivery risks while giving managers live visibility across jobs. Pulse 2.0 interviewed FYLD Co-Founder and CEO Shelley Copsey to learn more.

When asked about her background, Copsey shared:

I started my career in large-scale infrastructure, working on M&A and project finance for complex public and private organizations. What drew me in early was that these weren’t abstract problems; they were systems that kept economies and communities running.

Over time, I became more interested in how those industries actually evolve, which led me into PwC’s Digital Ventures team and later to Australia’s national science agency. There, I worked at the intersection of research and commercialization, helping turn breakthrough ideas into real companies. That experience shaped how I think about technology. Technology only matters if it’s applied at the right moment to solve real-world problems.

Now I’m the Co-founder and CEO of FYLD. We are partnering with some of the world’s largest infrastructure companies to move field work from reactive to proactive and improve safety and productivity.

How FYLD Started

When asked how the idea for the company came together, Copsey explained:

In 2017, I moved to the UK to step into my first CEO role at GeoSLAM, a 3D mobile mapping company. It was an incredible experience, but I felt a pull to go back to my roots and take on a larger, systemic challenge.

That opportunity came when the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan reached out. They were looking closely at major technology shifts like 5G, embedded video, and edge AI, and how they could transform infrastructure. Through that work, I saw firsthand how underserved frontline field teams really were. These are the people keeping our water running, power on, and roads safe, yet they often operate with limited visibility, fragmented data, and little real-time support.

It became clear there was a huge opportunity to modernize how field work gets done. So in April 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I set out to build a platform that could use AI and video to bring real-time insight and support to the field. We started with six people, £4.4 million in funding, and no office, and that platform eventually became FYLD.

Favorite Memory

When asked about her favorite memory working for the company so far, Copsey recalled:

In our launch year, we won the UK IT Industry Emerging Technology of the Year award. Recognising that the only way we’d had such success, and would continue that success, was due to partnership with the amazing field workers of our customer, Scotia Gas Networks (SGN). Our best champion there, Stephen Dickson, even collected the award for us!

Core Products And Features

When asked about FYLD’s core products and features, Copsey detailed:

FYLD turns frontline work into operational intelligence. Field teams capture short videos instead of completing static forms, and FYLD uses AI to analyze conditions to identify safety, quality, and delivery risks before they escalate. Managers get live visibility across jobs without adding site visits or headcount, and every action is automatically documented for compliance and audit purposes.

Since our launch, FYLD has helped customers decrease worksite injuries and incidents by as much as 48%. Customers have also been able to make substantial productivity gains with rapid time to value, as short as just four weeks from deployment.

Infrastructure Industry Challenges

When asked about the challenges facing the industry, Copsey noted:

Right now, the industry is being hit from multiple directions at once. There’s extreme weather, geopolitical uncertainty, and aging infrastructure. The AI boom in particular is driving one of the largest infrastructure buildouts in decades, with data centers pushing electricity and water demand far beyond what most utilities had planned for, while also requiring a speed of delivery that traditional models struggle to support.

What’s becoming clear is that there’s a growing disconnect between where decisions are made and what actually happens on site. A lot of people point to labor shortages, and that’s part of it, but it’s not the full picture. In many cases, the issue is the coordination of work on the ground. We see up to 30% of time on site lost to “standing time,” crews waiting for materials or guidance, duplicating work, or dealing with avoidable issues.

That’s a systems problem. There’s significant untapped capacity if we rethink how work gets done and enable teams to catch issues early instead of fixing them later.

Major Company Milestones

When asked about some of FYLD’s most significant milestones, Copsey said:

We’ve hit a number of exciting milestones as we’ve grown. Most recently, we announced a $41 million Series B led by Energy Impact Partners, with participation from Partech, bringing our total funding to $79.5 million. We’ve also been fortunate to receive strong industry recognition along the way, including being named to Deloitte’s 2025 EMEA Technology Fast 500 and UK Technology Fast 50 lists and BuiltWorlds’ 2025 InfrastructureTech Top 50.

But the milestone that matters most is the caliber of organizations we’re working with and how deeply embedded we are in their operations. These are companies managing tens of thousands of field workers, where operational certainty isn’t optional. They come to us to lead innovation, and they expand when they see the impact.

Amey is a good example: after seeing improvements in job prep, fewer aborts, and more efficient workflows, they rolled FYLD out across their Highways division to transform how 2,500+ field workers operate day to day.

Customer Success Stories

When asked to share specific customer success stories, Copsey highlighted:

One example is our work with utility providers in storm-prone regions like Texas, where field teams often operate in high-risk, fast-changing conditions. Before FYLD, they had limited live visibility, which slowed response times during critical events.

With FYLD, crews can capture field activity through video while AI surfaces hazards instantly, even in low-connectivity environments, giving supervisors a live view of what’s happening on the ground. In one case, this helped detect 67% of hazards in real time and cut resolution times for on-site issues by 50%, significantly improving both safety and speed during storm recovery.

In another case, our work with the North Carolina Department of Transportation has generated strong interest from other DOTs across the nation as they share results because it’s proof of the possibilities.

Growth Across The UK And US

When asked where FYLD is seeing the most growth, Copsey explained:

We’re fortunate in that growth is coming from different directions. We closed 2025 with an 82% growth rate across our customer base.

In the UK, we’ve become the industry standard way of working. We’re deployed onto 12 of the 18 water networks, in addition to a significant/growing customer base across gas, electric and highways.

In the US, we added customers including Quanta Services, Emery Sapp & Sons, and Sulzer, to longstanding partners such as Ferrovial. Right now, the US accounts for over 20% of our customer base.

Competitive Differentiation

When asked what differentiates FYLD from its competition, Copsey emphasized:

Unlike planning, task, or reporting tools, FYLD operates during execution, embedding guidance and predictive risk detection directly into frontline work, even in low-connectivity environments.

Field workers adopt it because it helps them make better decisions on site and get jobs done right the first time. That means they get home safe and fast. Their adoption creates a durable advantage.

FYLD’s specific advantage compounds through our unique data collection. We’ve captured over 55TB of execution-level data across 3.5 million job sites, creating one of the largest datasets of what it takes to deliver high-risk work.

The advantage of working with FYLD is that our partners have access to cross-industry data and hard-won experience. That’s where you move from incremental improvement to exponential insight.

Future Goals

When discussing FYLD’s future goals, Copsey concluded:

We are zeroed in on becoming the operating system for high-risk field work, so that’s where we’re allocating our resources.

We’ll continue to visit with customers one-on-one to serve the priorities of large infrastructure organizations.

We’re also focusing on expanding our presence in the US, where we’re seeing a major opportunity to transform infrastructure field work. I expect more than 40% of FYLD’s total revenue to be generated in the US by the end of 2026.
