Gate2Brain announced that it has signed a strategic partnership with Shilpa Biocare, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shilpa Medicare.
The partnership includes a €7 million investment from Shilpa Biocare in exchange for a 30.4% equity stake in Gate2Brain. The investment represents the largest funding raised by Gate2Brain to date.
Gate2Brain is a biotechnology company developing peptide-based delivery technology for central nervous system diseases. The company is focused on improving how therapeutics cross the blood-brain barrier, one of the major challenges in treating brain tumors and other central nervous system conditions.
The partnership will support the development of G2B-002, Gate2Brain’s lead therapeutic candidate for aggressive pediatric and adult brain tumors. G2B-002 has received Orphan Drug Designation from both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency.
G2B-002 uses Gate2Brain’s proprietary MiniAp4 peptide shuttle, which is designed to help therapeutics cross the blood-brain barrier. The company said preclinical studies have demonstrated improved brain delivery and reduced side effects in pediatric brain tumors.
Through the partnership, Gate2Brain will combine its delivery technology with Shilpa’s expertise in manufacturing, CMC development, and regulatory strategy. The companies aim to accelerate the development of G2B-002 and support the expansion of Gate2Brain’s technology platform into additional therapeutic areas and central nervous system applications.
The collaboration also further validates Gate2Brain’s blood-brain barrier delivery platform and supports the company’s mission to address critical unmet medical needs in pediatric brain cancer and other central nervous system diseases.
Founded in 2020, Gate2Brain is a spin-off from IRB Barcelona, the Universitat de Barcelona, and Barcelona Children’s Hospital Sant Joan de Déu. The company has received support from public and private institutions including Fundación Botín, Banco Sabadell, CDTI Innovación, the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency, ACCIÓ Startup Capital, and Fundación ”la Caixa”.
