- Google Assistant is now integrated into GE’s $144 Smart Countertop Microwave
GE has announced that it is now integrating Google Assistant to its $144 Smart Countertop Microwave as part of an update being rolled out on existing models. After the microwave is updated, the Assistant on the microwave can be easily set up through GE’s Kitchen appliances app and the Google Home app.
At the $144 price, it makes the GE’s Smart Countertop Microwave the cheapest microwave with Google Assistant integration. However, Amazon’s microwave with Alexa support has a low price of $60.
“The kitchen is the place where your hands are often full and messy at any given time–you could be using your oven, microwave, cutting board, cooktop, all while catching up with your partner about the day or helping your child with a math problem,” said GE Appliances’ commercial director of SmartHome Solutions Jeremy Miller. “By bringing the Google Assistant to our GE connected microwaves, you can now continue caramelizing onions, while stopping your special sauce from boiling over in the microwave—all without lifting a finger. It saves time, and it can also save dinner.”
With GE Appliances, families are able to start, stop, pause, resume, add time, etc. by saying “Hey Google…” GE Appliances also has Google Assistant integrated into its Wi-Fi enabled appliances like refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers, washers, dryers, window air conditioners and its new Kitchen Hub.
Some of the commands that are supported on the Smart Countertop Microwave include:
“Hey Google, start the microwave (starts a 30-second cycle).”
“Hey Google, set the microwave for one minute, 30 seconds.”
“Hey Google, pause the microwave.”
“Hey Google, resume the microwave.”
“Hey Google, stop the microwave.”
“Hey Google, how much time is left on the microwave timer?”
“Hey Google, add one minute to the microwave timer.”
The GE Appliances WiFi-enabled countertop microwaves also support the scan-to-cook feature where barcodes can be scanned on food packaging with a smartphone. With this feature, the microwave is automatically set to recommend cooking times.
