GE Vernova is set to acquire Alteia SAS, a French AI software firm specializing in computer vision and machine learning. This strategic move aims to significantly enhance GE Vernova’s GridOS Visual Intelligence platform, a core part of its Electrification Software division, which helps utilities manage the electric grid during disruptive events, such as storms and wildfires.
Alteia’s technology currently enables GridOS Visual Intelligence to utilize visual data and AI workflows for critical tasks, such as damage assessment, vegetation management, and asset inspection along power lines. With this acquisition, GridOS Visual Intelligence will integrate visual insights more seamlessly with operational data from systems, including Advanced Distribution Management Software. This deeper integration will empower utilities to “see and sense” the grid with unprecedented clarity, thereby boosting situational awareness.
The continuous enhancement of these AI workflows is expected to reduce the probability of catastrophic events, increase grid resilience, and accelerate damage assessments for quicker repairs and restoration efforts, ultimately ensuring more reliable power delivery.
