Generac Acquires Illinois Facility To Expand Large-Megawatt Generator Capacity Amid Rising Data Center Demand

Generac Holdings announced the acquisition of a new manufacturing facility in Belvidere, Illinois, as the company continues to expand its capacity for large-megawatt generator packaging in response to growing demand from data centers and other mission-critical industries.

The new site will significantly increase Generac’s ability to assemble generator enclosures and package completed systems for shipment. The facility builds on capabilities gained through the company’s acquisition of Enercon Engineering earlier this year, which added specialized expertise in generator enclosure manufacturing.

According to Generac, the Belvidere facility will complement Enercon’s existing operations by increasing enclosure assembly and final packaging capacity for large-scale generator systems. The expansion comes as demand for backup power solutions continues to rise, particularly from data centers and other applications requiring reliable, uninterrupted power.

The investment represents another step in Generac’s broader effort to scale its Commercial & Industrial business. In addition to acquiring Enercon Engineering, the company has expanded operations in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and established new facilities in Beaver Dam and Sussex, Wisconsin. Generac has also entered into a collaboration with EPC Power as part of its strategy to strengthen its capabilities and manufacturing footprint.

Located in northern Illinois, the Belvidere facility provides access to major interstate transportation networks, supporting the movement of large-scale power equipment to customers across the country. The site is expected to create more than 100 jobs when operations begin in the first quarter of 2027.

Founded in 1959, Generac designs and manufactures energy technology solutions and power products for residential, commercial, industrial, telecom, rental, and data center markets. The company has expanded beyond backup generators to include energy storage systems, energy management solutions, and other technologies to support more resilient and efficient energy infrastructure.

The latest investment reflects the company’s efforts to position itself for continued growth as increasing power requirements from data centers and critical infrastructure drive demand for large-scale backup generation solutions.
