Generac Holdings has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Enercon Engineering, Inc., a move designed to expand its capabilities in generator enclosures and switchgear as demand for backup power accelerates in data center and other mission-critical markets.
Enercon, founded in 1975 and headquartered in East Peoria, Illinois, designs and manufactures custom power equipment and industrial enclosures for high-reliability applications. The company employs more than 120 people and operates a 160,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. Its expertise in UL-certified switchgear, power distribution solutions, and generator enclosures will complement Generac’s existing Commercial & Industrial operations.
The acquisition comes as global demand for data center capacity is projected to more than triple by 2030, increasing the need for reliable backup power systems. Generac has been investing to scale its commercial and industrial manufacturing footprint, including new facilities in Beaver Dam and Sussex, Wisconsin. The addition of Enercon is expected to further support Generac’s goal of doubling C&I product sales in the coming years, with backup generators for data centers seen as a key growth driver.
Upon closing, Enercon will operate as “Enercon, a Generac company” within Generac’s Domestic Commercial & Industrial Business Group. Enercon’s current leadership team will remain in place. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is anticipated to close in the second quarter of 2026.
Generac, founded in 1959, provides a range of energy technology solutions, including power generation equipment, energy storage systems, and energy management products serving residential, light commercial, and industrial markets.
