General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. has been awarded a $38,766,471 U.S. Air Force contract to provide contractor logistics and sustainment support for Taiwan’s MQ-9B unmanned aircraft program.
The contract covers sustainment services and contractor logistics support for the MQ-9B aircraft being provided to Taiwan through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program. The award establishes continued contractor support intended to help maintain the aircraft and associated capabilities over the contract period.
All work under the contract will be performed in Poway, California, where General Atomics Aeronautical Systems is based. The Air Force expects the work to be completed by August 31, 2029.
The full $38,766,471 contract value is being obligated at the time of award using Foreign Military Sales funding associated with Taiwan.
The contract was awarded through a sole-source acquisition rather than a competitive procurement process. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio is the contracting activity under contract FA8689-26-C-B006.
Contractor logistics support can encompass the technical and sustainment activities required to keep an aircraft system available for operations throughout its service period. In this case, the award provides a dedicated contracting vehicle for General Atomics Aeronautical Systems to support Taiwan’s MQ-9B program as the aircraft and related systems are sustained through 2029.
The award also represents an additional stage of U.S. Foreign Military Sales activity connected to the MQ-9B platform. Under the FMS framework, the U.S. government manages the contracting process on behalf of an international customer, with customer-provided funds used to support the procurement and related services.
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems received the award on October 1, 2026. The contract’s emphasis on sustainment and contractor logistics support places the focus on maintaining the Taiwan MQ-9B capability after procurement rather than acquiring additional aircraft under this specific award.
