  • Online payments company Stripe announced General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) CFO Dhivya Suryadevara will be joining the company with the same title

Stripe — a global tech company that is building an economic infrastructure for the internet — announced that Dhivya Suryadevara will be joining the company as Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Stripe, Suryadevara has been serving as the CFO of General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) where she is managed a business operating at a massive scale and helped steer the transformation of the iconic manufacturer.

As Stripe’s reach is expanding across the world, Suryadevara will play a crucial role in enabling this aggressive growth while maintaining the highest standards in discipline and fiscal responsibility. At GM, Suryadevara oversaw financial operations amounting to over $100 billion in annual revenue and millions of vehicles delivered annually by 180,000 employees across six continents. And she has a track record of leadership in a high-scale environment and a proficiency in strategic transformation. Plus she played a significant role in capital allocation and spearheaded numerous strategic transactions for the company.

With over 400 new employees coming on board in 2020, Stripe now has 2,800 employees across 16 global offices, keeping the service performing reliably for millions of businesses worldwide. And Stripe has ramped up international expansion significantly over the past year, launching the service in 15 new countries across Latin America, Asia Pacific, and Europe.

Suryadevara’s appointment follows the recent appointments of Mike Clayville (formerly of Amazon Web Services) as Stripe’s Chief Revenue Officer and Trish Walsh (previously at Voya Financial) as General Counsel. And she joins at a point when the dislocations of 2020 spur a marked shift to online commerce. Stripe will soon have paid out $10 billion to customers that joined the platform since the onset of the pandemic in the US in March.

GM North America chief financial office John Stapleton has been named acting global chief financial officer, effective August 31. And GM will conduct an internal and external search for a successor.

Stapleton has been in his current role since January 2014. He joined GM in 1990 and has held a series of finance roles with increasing responsibility in manufacturing, labor, performance improvement and operations.
