Gentex Expands Biometric Portfolio With Acquisition Of BioConnect

Gentex Corporation announced the acquisition of Toronto-based BioConnect, a prominent provider of biometric authentication technology used across physical, digital, and IoT security applications. The deal strengthens Gentex’s strategy of expanding beyond automotive electronics into advanced identity assurance, cybersecurity, and next-generation access control solutions.

Gentex, known globally for its electro-optical technologies and long-standing presence in automotive, aerospace, medical, and fire protection markets, has steadily broadened its capabilities across sensing, vision systems, AI development, home automation, biometrics, and related innovative technologies. The acquisition of BioConnect adds a robust enterprise authentication platform that delivers precise identity verification and safeguards critical data, infrastructure, and IP for customers in highly regulated industries.

BioConnect operates an established multi-modal biometric platform used by more than 1,500 enterprise customers, including eight of the ten largest U.S.-headquartered data centers. Its technology supports secure access for healthcare, financial services, education, manufacturing, and data storage environments. BioConnect also offers comprehensive solutions for IT data centers that manage highly sensitive operations requiring strict physical and digital protection.

The acquisition also builds significant synergies with EyeLock, the iris biometric technology Gentex acquired earlier in the year through its purchase of VOXX International. Under BioConnect Founder and CEO Rob Douglas, personnel from BioConnect and EyeLock will unite as Gentex’s Security and Access Control team. The combined group has already begun exploring ways to integrate EyeLock hardware into BioConnect’s platforms.

BioConnect was founded in 2010 by IT professionals with a focus on establishing a trusted identity for securing enterprise assets, including people, data, and intellectual property. Gentex, founded in 1974, continues to expand its position in emerging technology markets through acquisitions and strategic innovation.
