Superpower announced that Giannis Antetokounmpo has joined the company as a brand investor and its first Global Brand Ambassador.
Antetokounmpo is a two-time NBA MVP and 2021 NBA champion. Through the partnership, he is backing Superpower’s mission to make preventative healthcare more accessible.
Superpower is a preventative health membership platform offering advanced blood testing across more than 100 biomarkers. The company said its platform is designed to give everyday Americans access to deeper health testing that has historically been available mainly to professional athletes, celebrities, executives, and concierge medicine patients.
Superpower said a standard annual physical typically checks only 10 to 15 basic markers and often takes action after symptoms appear. By contrast, professional athletes receive deeper tracking across inflammation, cardiovascular health, recovery, metabolic function, hormone health, and other biomarkers.
The company said Antetokounmpo’s own Superpower panel revealed health blind spots, including elevated cardiovascular risk markers and a Vitamin D level in the deficient range. Superpower said the results highlighted the importance of advanced testing even for elite athletes with access to world-class medical teams.
Superpower’s membership starts at $199 per year and includes an advanced health check of more than 100 biomarkers, personalized insights, ongoing care plans, and access to a clinical team. The company said the platform is designed to surface silent risk factors that standard checkups may miss and give members guidance to act on their results.
To date, Superpower said 60% of its members have uncovered something their routine care overlooked, including early cardiovascular risk factors, chronic inflammation, hormone imbalances, and nutrient deficiencies.
The partnership adds Antetokounmpo to a roster of Superpower investors, clinicians, and partners that includes Steve Aoki, Vanessa Hudgens, Dr. Robert Lufkin, Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy, and Dr. Anant Vinjamoori.
Superpower has raised more than $40 million in funding, with its Series A led by Forerunner Ventures. The company was founded by Max Marchione and Jacob Peters and is available at more than 2,000 in-lab locations across the U.S., with at-home blood draws also available.
KEY QUOTES:
“We hear from members every day who are finally getting clarity around symptoms they’ve struggled with for years, or uncovering risks they didn’t know existed. That’s why we built Superpower. Antetokounmpo understands this mission in a deeply personal way, and we’re proud to partner with such an elite athlete to bring this level of care to more people.”
Max Marchione, Founder and CEO of Superpower
“Growing up, my family couldn’t afford doctors, let alone the kind of healthcare I get now. When I found Superpower, I saw a platform that could give people the same kind of testing, information, and support I have to stay on top of my health. This is a level of care that more people should have access to without needing to worry about excessive costs.”
