Gibson Dunn Adds Clay Brett In Houston To Expand Energy Private Equity Platform

Gibson Dunn has added Clay Brett as a partner in its Houston office, expanding the firm’s Private Equity and Energy and Infrastructure practice groups. Brett advises sponsors and portfolio companies on M&A, investments and financing transactions across the energy industry and brings experience from both private practice and principal-investor roles.

His sector experience spans upstream and midstream energy, LNG, oilfield services, drillships, distributed power, solar, battery storage, compressed natural gas, renewable natural gas, carbon capture and helium.

His transactional work includes M&A, acquisitions and divestitures, structured equity and credit, investment vehicle formation, drillcos, derivatives, joint ventures, commercial agreements and management incentives.

Before joining Gibson Dunn, Brett was a partner at another international law firm.

Earlier, he was a partner and investment principal at Millennial Energy Partners, where he handled investment origination, structuring, negotiations and risk management for the affiliated York Tactical Energy Fund.

Brett also previously served as general counsel of an upstream portfolio company operating in Oklahoma’s STACK region.

His hiring follows Gibson Dunn’s recent Houston additions of Omar Samji and Atma Kabad as the firm continues expanding its energy and private capital capabilities in Texas.
