Gilat Lands About $10 Million Defense Order For Transportable Direct-Downlink Earth Observation System

By Amit Chowdhry • Dec 2, 2025

Gilat Satellite Networks (see Pulse 2.0 profile here) has secured an order valued at approximately $10 million to deliver a customized Earth Observation Solution through Gilat DataPath. The system, to be deployed over the next year, expands Gilat Defense’s portfolio beyond SATCOM into advanced earth observation and geospatial intelligence.

The capability centers on a first-of-its-kind, transportable direct downlink terminal designed to deliver secure, real-time intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and situational-awareness data from satellites equipped with multi-sensor payloads. The solution supports mission requirements in remote or contested environments where time-sensitive insights are critical.

The award reflects rising global demand for resilient, deployable intelligence infrastructure across defense, humanitarian response, and national security operations.

Gilat Satellite Networks is a global provider of satellite-based broadband communication systems, headquartered in Israel. Founded in 1987 and publicly listed, the company develops, manufactures and integrates ground-segment equipment and end-to-end solutions that enable connectivity via satellites—spanning traditional geostationary (GEO) as well as newer non-GEO (MEO/LEO) constellations.

Gilat’s product and service portfolio is broad: it includes very small aperture terminals (VSATs) and high-throughput modems, high-power amplifiers (solid state power amplifiers, or SSPAs), block up-converters (BUCs), satellite-on-the-move (SOTM) antennas for land/sea/air platforms, as well as a cloud-based network management platform. The company serves various markets, including defense and government, enterprise broadband access, cellular backhaul in remote areas, in-flight and maritime connectivity, and supports multiple orbits and satellite technologies to deliver global reach.
