The Global Electronics Association announced that it has acquired the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) market intelligence program of New Venture Research (NVR), expanding its Industry Intelligence platform and strengthening its data and research capabilities for the global electronics sector.

As part of the acquisition, the Association released its Global EMS Industry Report 2025, which indicates that the global EMS market has returned to growth following previous declines. According to the report, the EMS market grew 3.2% in 2024, reaching approximately $658 billion, and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 4.6% in the coming years. The broader electronics assembly market reached roughly $1.63 trillion in 2024, with original equipment manufacturers continuing to account for the majority of production.

The report highlights several trends shaping the industry, including rising demand driven by AI infrastructure investments in servers, data centers, and storage systems. It also notes a recovery in computing markets such as servers, desktops, notebooks, and tablets, while emphasizing that growth remains concentrated in select product categories rather than being broad-based across the sector.

The acquisition brings more than three decades of industry research into the Association’s portfolio. NVR, led by Randall Sherman, has long been recognized for tracking global EMS market trends, company rankings, and production data. The Association said it intends to preserve the program’s methodology while integrating it with broader regional and global datasets.

Oversight of the EMS intelligence program will be managed within the Association’s Industry Intelligence division under Christoph Solka, Director of Industry Intelligence. The organization said the move will help deliver more comprehensive market insights as electronics manufacturers navigate AI-driven demand, shifting market conditions, and ongoing supply chain challenges.

In addition to the research program, the Association will continue publishing Manufacturing Market Insider (MMI), the industry newsletter founded by Sherman. The publication will remain focused on EMS market developments, company activity, industry trends, and investment announcements while becoming more closely aligned with the Association’s broader intelligence initiatives.

The Global Electronics Association, formerly known as IPC, represents a global electronics industry valued at approximately $6 trillion and serves more than 3,000 member companies worldwide.

KEY QUOTES:

“The NVR program represents a significant body of industry knowledge developed over many years. By bringing it into the Association, we are ensuring continuity while integrating it into a broader effort to provide consistent, global insight into the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.”

John Mitchell, President and CEO, Global Electronics Association

“Randall built a dataset that the industry has relied on for many years. Our priority is to preserve and build on that foundation while making it more connected to other datasets and more reflective of how the industry operates globally today.”

Christoph Solka, Director of Industry Intelligence, Global Electronics Association
