GlobalFoundries announced it has appointed semiconductor industry veteran Ganesh Moorthy to its board of directors, effective immediately, adding a longtime operator with decades of experience in manufacturing, product development, and corporate growth.
Moorthy most recently served as president and CEO of Microchip Technology Inc., retiring in November 2024 after holding the top role since March 2021. He joined Microchip’s board in January 2021 and previously served in senior leadership positions, including chief operating officer and executive vice president. Earlier, he spent 19 years at Intel in engineering and executive leadership roles.
GlobalFoundries Executive Chairman Dr. Thomas Caulfield said Moorthy’s background in semiconductor technology and large-scale manufacturing aligns with the company’s strategy as it expands its position in what it calls “essential” semiconductor technologies.
In addition to his new role at GlobalFoundries, Moorthy is chair of the board at Ralliant, a precision technologies company. He also serves on the boards of Celanese, SiTime and Ayar Labs, and previously served for more than a decade on the board of engineered materials company Rogers.
GlobalFoundries said the appointment supports its long-term growth strategy centered on a resilient global manufacturing footprint and the delivery of power-efficient, differentiated semiconductors used across automotive, smart mobile devices, the internet of things, and communications infrastructure markets.
