General Motors reported U.S. third-quarter sales of 670,974 vehicles, down 6% from a year earlier as a smaller electric vehicle market and discontinued models affected overall results. GM said sales of its highest-volume vehicles remained roughly in line with the elevated level recorded during the prior-year period.
The company maintained leadership positions in full-size pickups, full-size SUVs and fleet sales while reporting record quarterly sales across its portfolio of affordable small SUVs.
GM’s five highest-volume vehicles are the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Traverse and Chevrolet Trax.
The next-generation 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are scheduled to begin arriving at dealerships during the fourth quarter.
Chevrolet Trax sales increased 16%, while the Trailblazer recorded its strongest third-quarter sales since 2007 and Corvette sales increased 29%.
GMC Sierra remains on track for its second-highest calendar-year sales, while the midsize Canyon recorded its strongest quarter ever.
Buick sales increased 8% during the quarter. Envista and Encore GX are on pace to produce their second-best combined calendar year.
Cadillac increased its share of the luxury EV market by 1.3 percentage points through August, according to GM, while the CT5 Blackwing recorded its strongest third quarter.
GM Fleet led the industry in sales for a fourth consecutive quarter, supported by strong commercial demand for pickup trucks.
