Golden State Dermatology (GSD), a physician-owned dermatology platform with 45 locations and more than 125 providers across California, has acquired NorCal Vein Specialists, a two-location vein care practice serving patients in Northern California.
NorCal Vein Specialists was founded and is led by M. Albert Malvehy, MD, and provides circulation and vascular-focused care, including vein treatments that address both medical and cosmetic concerns. The practice operates clinics in Pleasanton and Sacramento.
GSD said the acquisition is designed to deepen its ability to treat conditions that span both skin health and underlying tissue, pointing to the clinical overlap between dermatology and vein care. By bringing the vein practice onto its platform, GSD expects to offer patients a more integrated experience while broadening its suite of specialty services.
Under the terms described, NorCal Vein Specialists will continue seeing patients at its existing locations with the same physician and staff. The practice’s phone numbers, services, and day-to-day operations are expected to remain unchanged, while gaining access to GSD’s clinical, operational, and technology resources.
For GSD, the deal supports a broader growth strategy focused on expanding comprehensive dermatology and adjacent specialty services. Founder Ed Becker, MD, said the organization intends to grow in a way that maintains clinical excellence, physician autonomy, and the patient experience, while welcoming practices with strong local reputations and durable patient trust.
GSD was established amid wider healthcare consolidation with a stated goal of maintaining a relatively independent practice model. In addition to general dermatology, the platform offers services that include cosmetics, Mohs surgery, radiation therapy, hair restoration, pathology, vein treatment, plastic surgery, and related care. The company said it is actively seeking additional partnerships with dermatology clinics and physicians as it builds a broader network in the Western U.S.
