Goldman Sachs has announced the launch of its inaugural Digital and Technology Solutions undergraduate degree apprenticeship program in Birmingham, in partnership with WMG, University of Warwick.
This initiative marks the firm’s first degree apprenticeship outside London. And it builds on the decade-long success of its existing London-based program, which has helped nurture a generation of young professionals in engineering and technology roles.
The Birmingham program offers school leavers an opportunity to earn a fully funded university degree in engineering from the University of Warwick while gaining hands-on professional experience working at Goldman Sachs. The initiative reflects the firm’s continued investment in alternative pathways into finance and technology careers, broadening access to professional opportunities across the UK.
This expansion follows Goldman Sachs’ £1.5 million commitment earlier in 2025 to the West Midlands Combined Authority levy transfer scheme. The contribution aims to help small and medium-sized businesses, social enterprises, and charities across the region upskill employees—particularly in digital and technology-related fields.
Since establishing its Birmingham office in 2021, Goldman Sachs has grown to employ more than 550 people in Britain’s second-largest city. The firm’s move to its permanent office at One Centenary Way last year has enabled continued growth across key functions, including Engineering, Human Capital Management, Legal, Audit, and Compliance.
The launch of the new apprenticeship program underscores Goldman Sachs’ broader commitment to building regional talent pipelines and supporting the UK’s technology and innovation ecosystem. The partnership with WMG, University of Warwick, connects academic excellence with real-world industry experience, offering participants a practical foundation for long-term careers in engineering and finance.
KEY QUOTES:
“I’m very proud of the success of our London apprenticeship program over the past ten years. It’s fantastic to see how many of our apprentices have not only excelled in their roles but have also progressed to lead teams and become key contributors across the firm. Extending this model to our Birmingham office, in partnership with the University of Warwick, is a natural next step in our commitment to nurturing talent and supporting regional growth.”
John Chappell, Global Head of Market Data Engineering at Goldman Sachs and Sponsor of the EMEA Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Program
