Goldman Sachs has opened a new engineering office in Bellevue, Washington, expanding its technology footprint in the Pacific Northwest and creating dedicated space for teams focused on artificial intelligence and cloud transformation.

The new location is Goldman Sachs’ first dedicated engineering office in the region and is designed to accommodate more than 125 employees.

The Bellevue office gives Goldman Sachs a permanent presence in one of the world’s largest technology hubs and provides access to a deep pool of engineers and university graduates with experience across artificial intelligence, cloud computing and other emerging technologies.

Goldman Sachs said the expansion is part of its broader effort to accelerate technology development across the firm as artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure increasingly influence financial services.

The company employs more than 12,000 engineers globally, representing approximately one-quarter of its workforce.

Those engineers develop and maintain technology supporting Goldman Sachs’ businesses while helping the company introduce new tools intended to improve productivity, strengthen client service and modernize internal operations.

The Bellevue site is expected to play a role in the firm’s broader AI and cloud transformation strategy.

Financial institutions are increasingly investing in artificial intelligence to automate workflows, analyze large datasets, improve risk management and create more efficient tools for employees and clients.

Cloud infrastructure has also become increasingly important as banks and investment firms modernize technology architectures and seek more flexible computing environments.

Goldman Sachs is positioning the Bellevue office as a strategic engineering hub where teams can contribute to those initiatives while taking advantage of the Pacific Northwest’s established technology ecosystem.

The region is home to major technology companies, cloud infrastructure providers and universities that produce significant numbers of engineering and computer science graduates.

Goldman Sachs said that talent base was an important factor in selecting Bellevue for the new location.

The office also expands an existing Goldman Sachs presence in the Seattle area.

The firm has maintained operations in downtown Seattle since 2001, with employees working across its Banking and Wealth Management businesses.

The Bellevue engineering office complements those operations by adding a location specifically oriented toward technology and engineering.

The expansion also follows investments Goldman Sachs has made in additional operating and technology centers around the world.

The firm has expanded in locations including Dallas, Salt Lake City and Warsaw as it develops a broader network of engineering and operational hubs.

The Bellevue location has been designed with an open floor plan intended to encourage collaboration among engineering teams.

The office also includes wellness amenities as Goldman Sachs seeks to create a workplace environment that supports both productivity and employee well-being.

The investment reflects the growing strategic importance of engineering talent within Goldman Sachs.

Technology has become increasingly central to how investment banking, asset management, wealth management and trading businesses operate.

Engineers now build systems that support areas ranging from market execution and risk management to client platforms, data analytics and artificial intelligence.

AI is adding another layer to that transformation by giving financial institutions opportunities to automate repetitive work, improve information retrieval and develop new tools for employees and clients.

Goldman Sachs’ decision to establish a dedicated engineering presence in Bellevue gives the firm access to a market known for cloud computing and artificial intelligence expertise while creating another center from which it can recruit experienced technologists.

The office also signals that Goldman Sachs expects engineering to remain a significant part of its workforce as technology becomes more deeply integrated throughout the financial industry.
