Google Advances Car Automation I.P. By Applying For Gesture-Based Car Controls Patent

Google knows that the technology built within cars can be enhanced.  Google already has driverless cars in action on the road.  Google now wants to enhance the gestures that drivers make when on the road so they have filed a patent for gesture-based car controls.

The proposed system relies on a ceiling-mounted camera and laser scanner to trigger actions based on what the driver does with their hands.  For example, swiping near the window could have it roll down and pointing to the radio can turn the volume up.  It is unknown when or whether this technology will end up cars.

However, it is good to have the intellectual property (IP) so that Google does not have to deal with litigation as they start the development.
