Google: AI ‘Skills’ Feature In Chrome Launches To Turn Prompts Into One-Click Workflows

Google has announced the launch of a new feature called “Skills” in Google Chrome, designed to help users turn frequently used AI prompts into reusable, one-click workflows.

The update enhances how people interact with AI inside the browser, allowing them to streamline repetitive tasks such as answering questions, comparing information, and analyzing content across multiple tabs. Instead of retyping the same prompt repeatedly, users can now save prompts as “Skills” and instantly apply them while browsing.

The feature is integrated with Gemini in Chrome, enabling users to trigger saved workflows directly within their browsing experience.

Users can create a Skill by saving a prompt from their chat history. Once saved, it can be accessed by typing a forward slash (/) or clicking the plus (+) button within Gemini in Chrome. The Skill can then run on the current webpage or across multiple selected tabs. Users also have the flexibility to edit existing Skills or create new ones at any time.

Early testing highlights a wide range of use cases across different categories. In health and wellness, users have created Skills to calculate protein macros for recipes. In shopping, Skills can generate side-by-side product comparisons across tabs. For productivity, users can scan lengthy documents and extract key insights quickly.

Alongside custom workflows, Google is also introducing a built-in library of ready-to-use Skills. These pre-designed prompts support common tasks such as analyzing product ingredients or selecting gifts by comparing options against a budget and recipient preferences. Users can add these Skills to their library and customize them as needed.

The feature is built with Chrome’s existing security and privacy infrastructure. Skills require user confirmation before performing sensitive actions, such as sending emails or adding calendar events, and benefit from Chrome’s broader safeguards, including automated testing and continuous updates.

Skills are rolling out to Gemini in Chrome starting today, with availability expanding to users on signed-in Chrome desktop devices. Saved Skills can be accessed and managed through the Gemini interface by typing a forward slash (/) and selecting the appropriate menu options.
