Apple and Google announced they have entered into a multi-year collaboration that will see the next generation of Apple Foundation Models built on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology, positioning Gemini as a key backbone for future Apple Intelligence capabilities.
Under the agreement, the companies said the new models will help power upcoming Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri expected to arrive this year.
Apple said it selected Google after what it described as a careful evaluation process, concluding that Google’s AI technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and will enable new experiences for Apple users.
The companies emphasized that Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and through Private Cloud Compute, and that Apple plans to maintain its existing privacy standards as the partnership expands the underlying model technology.
