Google Announces $40 Billion Texas Expansion To Bolster AI And Cloud Infrastructure

Google is making one of its most significant U.S. commitments to date with a new $40 billion investment in Texas through 2027, expanding its cloud and artificial intelligence footprint across the state. The company, which has operated in Texas for over 15 years, stated that the funding will support the development of new cloud and AI infrastructure, including data center campuses in Armstrong and Haskell Counties.

As part of its broader infrastructure strategy, Google announced that it will continue prioritizing responsible growth by adding new energy resources to the Texas grid, covering operational costs, and supporting local energy efficiency programs.

The plan includes a $30 million Energy Impact Fund aimed at accelerating energy initiatives statewide, as well as more than 6,200 megawatts of new energy generation and capacity through power-purchase agreements with regional developers. One of the upcoming Haskell County data centers will be constructed adjacent to a new solar facility equipped with battery storage.

To strengthen the skilled workforce needed for large-scale infrastructure development, Google is partnering with the Electrical Training Alliance to support training for existing electrical workers and more than 1,700 apprentices in Texas by 2030. The effort is expected to more than double the state’s projected pipeline of new electricians.

Google said the investment is intended not only to advance Texas’ workforce and infrastructure but also to help ensure the United States maintains the technical foundation required to lead globally in artificial intelligence.
