- Google is buying Montreal-based gaming studio Typhoon Studios. These are the details about the deal.
Google VP and head of Stadia Games & Entertainment Jade Raymond announced that the company is buying Montreal-based Typhoon Studios. Typhoon Studios launched three years ago and the company has 26 employees.
Typhoon has not released its first title yet and the company was planning to launch its first game called “Journey to the Savage Planet” in late January. This game is being developed for multiple platforms.
“Under the leadership of its co-founders, Reid Schneider & Alex Hutchinson, Typhoon Studios has built an incredible team of industry veterans who are committed to the player experience. The Typhoon team will be joining our first Stadia Games and Entertainment studio that is based in Montreal and led by Sébastien Puel,” wrote Raymond. “Typhoon Studios will continue to work on the launch of Journey to the Savage Planet for multiple platforms on January 28, 2020. Meanwhile, our priority will be on integrating the team from Typhoon Studios into Stadia Games and Entertainment. We’re thrilled to welcome this incredibly talented team to the Google family!”
Earlier this year, Raymond had announced Google is setting up a gaming studio in Montreal. At that gaming studio, Google said it would produce exclusive and original content across a diverse gaming studio. The city of Montreal is known for being a hub for gaming as many studios are based out of there.
