Google has announced a new video-based question and answers app for iOS called Cameos. The Cameos app allows public figures and celebrities to answer questions about themselves and then share it on Google.
This would allow public figures to provide accurate information about themselves rather than having users search for information from third parties.
TechCrunch pointed out that this feature is an extension of the Posts on Google feature. The Posts on Google feature allowed some organizations to post directly to Google search results.
The “Posts on Google” feature was limited to a number of sports teams, celebrities, movie studios and movies at first. But then it started expanding to local businesses last year. And earlier this year, the feature became available to musicians. Users are able to post updates on Google Search using text, images, GIFs, videos, events and links to third party sites. However, the Cameos app primarily focuses on videos.
The public figures and celebrities using the Cameos app would see the top questions that people are asking in searches about them. And then they can pick and choose which questions they want to answer. The answers would be recorded on iPhone cameras and then would be published in Google’s search results and the Google app.
“Cameos on Google lets you be the authority on you. Record video answers to the most asked questions on Google and then post them right to Google. Now, when people search for you, they’ll get answers directly from you,” says Google in the description for the Cameos app.
