Today the Google Doodle was designed to show appreciation for public health workers and researchers in the scientific community. The COVID-19 virus was first reported in Wuhan, China. And over 1.2 million people have been infected across 183 countries since then.
“As COVID-19 continues to impact communities around the world, people are coming together to help one another now more than ever. Over the coming weeks, we’re launching a Doodle series to recognize and honor many of those on the front lines,” said Google in a statement. “Today, we’d like to say: To all the public health workers and to researchers in the scientific community, thank you.”
Over 100 doctors and nurses around the world have lost their lives due to the pandemic. At least 66 doctors in Italy have passed away alone. And over 9,000 medical workers were infected in Italy and Spain. Over 13 doctors have died in China.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has provided several suggestions to avoid the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This includes cleaning your hands frequently with soap and water and washing your hands after coughing or sneezing/caring for the sick/during and after food preparation/after using the bathroom/etc. WHO also suggests maintaining at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance from anyone and avoid touching your face. You also need to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your bent elbow while coughing or sneezing. Here is a video about it:
Google has also set up a personalized page with coronavirus tips. Recently, Google parent company Alphabet announced a commitment of over $800 million to support small- and medium-sized businesses and health organizations during the pandemic.
