Google announced that it is participating in Frontier’s new $900+ million commitment to accelerate breakthrough technologies for permanent carbon dioxide removal.
The announcement marks a major expansion of the advance market commitment Google co-founded in 2022. The initiative is designed to help scale emerging climate technologies that can permanently remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
Google said its renewed support will help advance novel carbon removal solutions that can benefit ecosystems and communities. These include technologies such as enhanced rock weathering, which can improve soil health, and biomass carbon removal, which can support local economies.
The company said long-duration carbon removal technologies are part of its broader climate solutions portfolio. This portfolio also includes natural ecosystem restoration and efforts to eliminate superpollutants.
Google said these climate approaches can work together to help neutralize the warming impact of emissions across different timeframes.
The company said it sees science and technology as important tools for mitigating planetary warming. Google also described Frontier’s mission as a key part of that strategy and said it is expanding support for these solutions alongside other leading companies.
