Google’s Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly users, with the company describing it as the fastest-growing product in Google’s history. Google said the milestone reflects increasing use of Gemini across voice interactions, real-time visual assistance, education, content creation and automated tasks across third-party applications.
Voice has become a major way users interact with Gemini. According to Google, 63% of users now speak directly to the assistant, including a growing group that uses Gemini exclusively through voice.
The company said busy parents are 43% more likely to use voice for everyday tasks, highlighting how conversational AI is becoming integrated into routine activities.
Gemini Live is also expanding beyond traditional voice interactions. One in five Gemini Live sessions now involves features such as live camera feeds or screen sharing, which allow users to get assistance with physical-world tasks in real time.
Google said these capabilities have become particularly popular with students and people working on do-it-yourself projects.
Education represents another significant use case. About 38% of school-related Gemini requests include an attachment, indicating that students are frequently uploading documents, images and other materials as part of their interactions with the platform.
Gemini’s generative media capabilities have also reached substantial scale. The app now generates more than 150 million images per day.
Google highlighted small businesses as one group making use of Gemini’s image, video and audio generation tools to create materials such as marketing content and other business assets.
On Android, Gemini can automate actions across more than 40 popular applications. These integrations can support tasks such as booking rides and making restaurant reservations.
The service is also gaining traction across Apple’s ecosystem. Google said Gemini now has more than 100 million active users on iOS.
MacOS users are among the platform’s most intensive users, with power users on the operating system submitting prompts at roughly twice the frequency seen across other surfaces.
Google said it plans to continue expanding Gemini as it pursues its next billion users, with a focus on making the assistant increasingly personalized, proactive and capable of handling more complex activities.
