Google has expanded Gemini Notebook with access to hundreds of textbooks from publishers and educational organizations in the U.S. and India, giving students another way to use AI tools alongside structured academic material.
The newly available catalog includes textbooks from OpenStax, Open Textbook Library, and S Chand Publishing. Students can add the books directly to Gemini Notebook at no charge and use them as sources for studying, research, and coursework.
Once a textbook is added to a notebook, Gemini Notebook grounds its responses directly in that source material. Answers include inline citations and links back to the original textbook content, allowing students to verify where information came from rather than relying solely on an AI-generated response.
Students can also use Gemini Notebook to transform textbook material into personalized study resources. The platform can generate tailored study guides, practice quizzes, flashcards, and other learning materials based on the books added to a notebook.
Google said the textbook expansion builds on its recently introduced Expert Intelligence initiative, a broader effort across Google products designed to help users work with trusted sources through AI.
Gemini Notebook already supports eligible ebooks purchased through Google Play Books, and the addition of the textbook catalog extends the experience more directly into academic coursework.
Students can access the new materials by selecting “Add sources” within Gemini Notebook and then choosing the “Textbooks” option to browse the available catalog.
The expansion reflects Google’s broader effort to position Gemini Notebook as an AI-powered learning and research environment where users can work with specific source materials rather than relying exclusively on general-purpose model knowledge.
By integrating textbooks directly into the platform, Google is also giving students a way to move between source-backed answers and AI-generated learning tools without manually uploading each book.
The feature is designed to help students study from established course materials while using Gemini Notebook’s AI capabilities to organize, explain, test, and review the information contained within those sources.
