Google NotebookLM is now rolling out Short Video Overviews, a new video format designed to give users a faster way to understand the sources they are working with.

The new feature enables users to generate approximately 60-second videos that provide a bite-sized overview of key concepts from their uploaded or referenced materials.

Short Video Overviews are intended to help users learn more quickly by turning source material into short, visual explanations.

The format is designed for users who want a fast summary before digging deeper into a topic, reviewing a longer document, or preparing to study a collection of sources.

NotebookLM’s new Short Video Overviews build on the experience of Cinematic Video Overviews.

The feature draws on the strongest elements of Cinematic Video Overviews to create engaging videos that combine narrative explanations with educational animations.

By combining short-form video with source-grounded explanations, Short Video Overviews can help users grasp major themes, definitions, and takeaways in a more visual format.

The feature could be useful for students reviewing study materials, professionals summarizing research, teams working through shared documents, or anyone looking to quickly understand a set of sources.

Short Video Overviews also expand NotebookLM’s broader set of AI-powered learning formats.

NotebookLM has increasingly focused on helping users transform documents, notes, and other source material into more approachable outputs, including summaries, explanations, and multimedia experiences.

With Short Video Overviews, the platform adds a more concise video option for users who prefer a quick learning experience over a longer-form overview.

The rollout will begin with English users ages 18 and older. Short Video Overviews will be available to both consumer and Workspace customers. And the feature is rolling out across web and mobile devices in the coming weeks.

The launch reflects Google’s continued efforts to make NotebookLM a more flexible tool for understanding source material through multiple formats, including text, audio, and video.

As users increasingly rely on AI tools to process information, Short Video Overviews gives NotebookLM another way to help people move from raw material to clear takeaways more quickly.

Google said the new format uses Nano Banana 2 Lite.
