- Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is offering sellers an option to list ads for free through the Google Shopping platform
Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL) is offering sellers an option to list ads for free through the Google Shopping platform. This new policy will be rolled out in the U.S. by the end of the month. And then it will be rolled out globally over the next few months.
Google has been planning to offer this option for a while now. Originally, Google was going to introduce the option to list ads for free later this year. However, the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the plan.
This decision may incentivize more sellers to select Google Shopping as their platforms of choice. And Google is also partnering with PayPal for merchants to link their accounts for receiving payments.
“For retailers, this change means free exposure to millions of people who come to Google every day for their shopping needs. For shoppers, it means more products from more stores, discoverable through the Google Shopping tab. For advertisers, this means paid campaigns can now be augmented with free listings. If you’re an existing user of Merchant Center and Shopping ads, you don’t have to do anything to take advantage of the free listings, and for new users of Merchant Center, we’ll continue working to streamline the onboarding process over the coming weeks and months,” said Google President of Commerce Bill Ready in a blog post.
Google Shopping will continue to offer sponsored listings for a price in order to make products stand out more. Sponsoring products may become more essential for third-party retailers in order to stand out more from the free ad listings.
