Graybar has entered into an agreement to acquire Samson Electrical Supply, a New Jersey-based distributor of electrical products and related equipment. The transaction is expected to close in early August 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 1949, Samson Electrical Supply serves commercial, industrial, residential, institutional and utility customers from its operations in South Plainfield, New Jersey.

The company distributes electrical products, lighting systems, power distribution equipment and maintenance, repair and operations supplies.

Following the acquisition, Samson will operate as a Graybar subsidiary while retaining the Samson Electrical Supply name, existing employees and supplier relationships.

The structure is intended to preserve the customer relationships and local operating identity Samson has developed over more than 75 years while providing access to Graybar’s larger distribution network and resources.

For Graybar, the acquisition expands its presence in New Jersey and strengthens its ability to serve customers across the region.

Samson’s established customer base and local market knowledge will complement Graybar’s broader product portfolio, supply chain capabilities and logistics infrastructure.

Electrical distributors connect manufacturers with contractors, utilities, industrial operators, property developers and other organizations that need equipment for construction, maintenance and modernization projects.

Customers frequently depend on distributors not only for product availability but also for technical assistance, inventory planning, delivery and broader supply chain support.

Samson provides products used in electrical installations, building systems, lighting projects, industrial operations and utility infrastructure.

Its maintenance, repair and operations capabilities also support customers seeking replacement products and supplies required to keep facilities and equipment operating.

Graybar distributes electrical, industrial, automation and connectivity products from thousands of manufacturers.

The company also provides supply chain management and logistics services intended to help customers source products, manage inventory and deliver materials to project sites and operating facilities.

Graybar operates a network of more than 355 distribution facilities across North America.

Adding Samson will provide the New Jersey company with access to this network while allowing Graybar to build on Samson’s established relationships with local customers and suppliers.

Samson President Michael Cohen said the combination will allow the company to retain the values that have guided its operations while gaining additional capabilities and growth opportunities.

The decision to preserve Samson’s name and team may help provide continuity for customers and employees following the transaction.

Graybar’s planned purchase of Samson represents its third acquisition of 2026.

The company acquired Broken Arrow Electric Supply in March and American Electric Supply in May.

The series of transactions reflects Graybar’s continued effort to expand its geographic coverage and capabilities through acquisitions of established regional distributors.

These businesses can give Graybar immediate access to local customer relationships, experienced employees and supplier networks that could take longer to build organically.

Graybar is a Fortune 500 company and one of North America’s largest employee-owned businesses.

Its employee ownership structure gives qualifying employees an economic interest in the company and can support a long-term approach to investment, operations and customer relationships.

The acquisition remains subject to customary closing requirements. Once completed, Samson will become part of Graybar’s broader distribution and logistics organization while continuing to operate under its existing brand.
