Great Hill Partners has appointed Sam Liu as Director of AI, adding an experienced artificial intelligence executive to its Growth Team as the private equity firm expands the use of AI across investing and portfolio company value creation.
Liu will work with Great Hill’s investment professionals to develop AI capabilities that combine technology with repeatable processes across the investment lifecycle.
His responsibilities will include helping the firm identify patterns, develop proprietary investment insights and improve engagement with potential and existing portfolio companies.
Liu will also work directly with Great Hill portfolio companies on applying AI to product innovation, operations and decision-making.
The appointment reflects a growing focus among private equity firms on using artificial intelligence not only inside portfolio companies but also across sourcing, diligence, research and investment workflows.
Liu brings more than a decade of experience designing and implementing AI systems for large global enterprises.
Most recently, he served as an Associate Partner in Bain & Company’s AI practice, advising Fortune 500 companies and private equity firms on artificial intelligence strategy, agentic AI, machine learning and enterprise AI transformation.
Before Bain, Liu spent nearly eight years at Boston Consulting Group, where he led major AI projects across multiple industries.
Earlier in his career, he held data science roles at Dell EMC and Intel, developing machine learning models for applications including supply chain forecasting and predictive maintenance.
Great Hill was founded in 1998 and invests between $100 million and $750 million in high-growth companies across technology, financial services, healthcare, business services and consumer sectors.
The firm has raised funds representing more than $19 billion of commitments and has invested in over 100 companies.
Liu’s role gives Great Hill a dedicated AI leader focused simultaneously on internal investment processes and practical applications across the firm’s portfolio.
