Greenberg Traurig has expanded its London Energy & Natural Resources Practice with the appointment of Sofiya Bumagin as a Shareholder. Bumagin joins from Sidley Austin, bringing experience advising private equity firms and other financial sponsors on infrastructure mergers and acquisitions, particularly transactions involving the energy transition and digital infrastructure.
The appointment strengthens Greenberg Traurig’s capabilities in sectors attracting investment from private capital providers, including renewable energy infrastructure, energy storage, data centers, and telecommunications.
Bumagin has advised investors on transactions involving battery storage, district heating, data centers, telecommunications towers, and fiber networks.
Her practice centers on helping financial sponsors execute infrastructure acquisitions, disposals, and other complex investments across the United Kingdom and international markets.
Before joining Greenberg Traurig, Bumagin completed a one-year secondment to an infrastructure private equity firm, where she worked on transactions spanning multiple infrastructure sectors.
The experience provided her with direct exposure to the investment processes and commercial priorities of infrastructure-focused private equity managers.
Prior to her tenure at Sidley Austin, she served as a legal director at a global investment group, supporting its infrastructure investment team.
Her experience encompasses both external legal advisory work and in-house positions within investment organizations.
Bumagin’s recent transactions include advising infrastructure private equity funds on an investment in a mining business, a bid for a marina operator, and the acquisition of a container terminals business.
She has also advised on the sale of a stake in and establishment of fiber and telecommunications tower lease aggregation platforms, as well as the purchase of a flexible generation power station.
These transactions reflect the range of infrastructure assets attracting private capital, including energy generation, communications infrastructure, transportation facilities, and other essential services.
At Greenberg Traurig, Bumagin will work closely with Shashank Krishna, Head of the firm’s London Energy Practice, advising investors and other market participants on energy and infrastructure transactions in the United Kingdom and internationally.
Her arrival supports the firm’s efforts to expand its presence in infrastructure and energy investment, with particular emphasis on sectors where energy transition and digital infrastructure development are generating additional transaction activity.
Greenberg Traurig is also strengthening its ability to advise private equity firms and other institutional investors pursuing acquisitions across multiple jurisdictions.
The addition of Bumagin provides the London office with additional experience advising sponsors on transactions that combine complex legal structures with specialized infrastructure assets.
Her background in both private practice and investment organizations is expected to support clients throughout the investment lifecycle, including acquisitions, portfolio development, and disposals.
The appointment is part of Greenberg Traurig’s broader strategy of expanding its international energy and infrastructure capabilities while strengthening connections between its London office and other practices across the firm’s global platform.
