Greenhouse: Acquisition Of Ezra AI Labs To Bring Conversational AI To Hiring

Greenhouse, a hiring platform used by more than 7,500 companies, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Ezra AI Labs, a voice AI interviewing company focused on structured, on-demand candidate conversations. The acquisition is expected to close this quarter, subject to customary closing conditions.

The deal comes as recruiters face a surge in application volume and increasing use of AI by job seekers. According to Greenhouse, applications per recruiter on its platform have increased 412% since 2023, while 74% of candidates now use AI in their job search. The company believes the acquisition will help recruiters identify qualified talent more effectively while providing candidates with a more engaging and transparent hiring experience.

Greenhouse said Ezra AI Labs was designed to address shortcomings in earlier AI interviewing solutions, which have often been criticized for creating impersonal experiences and lacking transparency. The company noted that Ezra’s conversational voice technology enables candidates to participate in natural discussions rather than one-way video interviews.

The acquisition expands Greenhouse’s structured hiring methodology to the earliest stages of recruitment, allowing more applicants to participate in interviews and providing recruiters with additional insights beyond resumes. Greenhouse said the technology gives hiring teams structured evaluations, interview transcripts, and competency-based assessments while maintaining explainability and transparency.

Ezra AI Labs conducts AI-led voice interviews that can be customized for specific roles and company cultures. Candidates are evaluated against consistent criteria, while recruiters receive structured scores and interview summaries. The platform also enables candidates to ask questions about roles, teams, and organizations during the interview process.

For recruiters, the technology integrates directly into applicant tracking system workflows, helping organizations screen larger candidate pools without increasing hiring timelines. The platform also includes capabilities designed to identify AI-generated or scripted responses and provide structured feedback that can support candidate communications.

For candidates, the system offers on-demand interviews that can be completed from any location and at a convenient time. Candidates can share their experiences in their own words, participate in structured interviews tied to specific job requirements, and receive evaluations based on the substance of their responses. Candidates also retain the ability to opt out at any stage.

Greenhouse said Ezra AI Labs will initially remain available as a standalone product for both existing and new customers. Over time, the company plans to further integrate Ezra’s technology into its broader AI capabilities, including interviewing, talent matching, and candidate experience initiatives.

The company also emphasized its focus on privacy, security, and responsible AI governance. Greenhouse maintains ISO 27001, ISO 27701, and ISO 42001 certifications and stated that customer personal data is not used to train internal or third-party AI models. The company also conducts independent monthly bias audits for its AI-powered talent matching capabilities.

KEY QUOTES:

“Hiring today is still fundamentally the same process it was thirty years ago, it just moved online. Resumes used to be paper, now they’re PDFs. That’s not transformation, that’s modernization. Even as AI has reshaped so many areas of work, AI interviewing has been held back by the limitations of the technology, viewed as clunky, robotic, and unfair. Ezra is the first time AI interviewing has truly lived up to its potential, for both candidates and recruiters. The voice conversation is unlike anything else on the market. It delivers what the rest of the category has been promising and failing at: a better experience for candidates, fairer evaluation, and a real signal for recruiters.”

Daniel Chait, CEO and Co-founder, Greenhouse

“Hiring is one of the most consequential decisions companies make, and yet the first wave of AI in hiring made it worse, not better. It scaled bias, hid how decisions were being made, and created experiences that felt robotic and unfair. We built Ezra to do the opposite: to give every candidate a voice and give recruiters a structured, transparent signal to make better decisions. Voice matters because people reveal far more in conversation than they ever can on a resume. With Greenhouse, we can now bring that approach to the scale required to fundamentally improve how hiring works for everyone.”

Ophir Samson, CEO, CTO, and Founder, Ezra AI Labs

“Structured hiring has always meant that every candidate gets the same fair, consistent evaluation. But until now, that principle hasn’t been possible to apply at the very first stage of the process, where the volume is highest and where the strongest candidates are most likely to be overlooked. Ezra lets us extend that rigor to the front of the funnel. Every conversation is tailored to the job and follows the same structured criteria, every evaluation is explainable, and every hiring decision stays with the team. Candidates know AI is involved, they know what it’s measuring, and they get a conversation instead of talking into a void. That’s what responsible AI in hiring looks like.”
