Gridsight, an innovative company specializing in AI-powered grid capacity management, has successfully secured $26 million in Series B funding. Insight Partners led the round, with additional participation from Galvanize and existing stakeholders, including Airtree, Energy Transition Ventures, and Aera VC.
The capital raised is intended to bolster Gridsight’s expansion in the United States while also supporting growth in Australia. The company’s unique technology aims to help utility providers accurately assess the amount of electricity capacity available across their existing distribution networks and manage that capacity more dynamically and efficiently.
Gridsight is positioning itself to tackle major infrastructure challenges driven by rising electricity demand from AI data centers, the proliferation of electric vehicles, broader industrial electrification, and the integration of distributed energy resources. Remarkably, Gridsight has indicated that, on average, nearly three-quarters of grid capacity remains unused, though this availability can fluctuate considerably by location, time of day, and season.
Gridsight’s platform is designed to help utility companies maximize the use of existing capacity, reducing reliance on new infrastructure, which can be costly and time-consuming to build. Currently, Gridsight collaborates with several U.S. utility companies, including prominent names like Xcel Energy and United Illuminating, reinforcing its presence in the American energy landscape.
In Australia, Gridsight has made significant strides by partnering with Endeavour Energy. The company’s platform has enabled a notable increase in households’ solar export capacity, raising the limit from 5 kW to 10 kW through advanced dynamic controls. This initiative is expected to create substantial benefits, unlocking over $100 million in value for consumers while also adding an impressive 600 MW of solar capacity to the grid.
