GridStor, a utility-scale battery energy storage developer and operator, announced it has acquired the 199 MW / 796 MWh Birdseye battery storage project in Adams County, Colorado from Accelergen. The acquisition marks GridStor’s fifth project acquisition in the last eighteen months and its second in the Western United States.

The Birdseye project is expected to help utilities meet rising electricity demand and improve grid reliability across the Western U.S. Once operational, the facility is projected to supply enough power to serve more than 150,000 households during peak periods.

The project is scheduled to begin construction as early as 2027, with commercial operations targeted for the end of 2028. During the construction phase, the development is expected to create approximately 115 full-time jobs.

Backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, GridStor currently manages 530 MW and 1,300 MWh of battery storage assets in operation and construction. The company also maintains a pipeline exceeding 3 GW of battery storage projects in later-stage development throughout the western and central United States.

Accelergen, founded in 2020 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, develops utility-scale battery energy storage systems and hybrid solar-storage projects. The company focuses on supporting the transition toward zero-carbon power generation through analytics-driven project development.

The acquisition comes amid accelerating electricity demand growth in the Western U.S., particularly from utilities, industrial customers, and data centers seeking reliable and flexible power infrastructure solutions.
