H1 has acquired Defacto Health, a healthcare data company specializing in provider network intelligence, expanding the AI-powered healthcare platform’s capabilities around provider data, payer networks and access to care. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Defacto maintains data covering payer networks, healthcare providers and the insurance plans providers accept. Its technology helps health plans assess provider-directory accuracy, identify clusters of errors and benchmark their networks.
The companies already had an established relationship, with Defacto serving as a longtime H1 data partner. Following the acquisition, Defacto will operate as part of H1, and co-founders Ron Urwongse and Tarun J. Theogaraj will join H1 and continue leading the business’s work.
H1 plans to combine Defacto’s provider-network expertise with its healthcare data, technology and AI capabilities to create a more connected view of healthcare providers and networks.
The acquisition is particularly focused on improving the quality of provider information used by health plans. Provider directories can become inaccurate as information changes across physicians, healthcare facilities, insurance plans and networks, creating challenges for both insurers and patients.
Defacto’s technology is designed to organize and streamline access to that information, allowing healthcare organizations to identify inaccuracies and make more informed decisions about their provider networks.
Urwongse and Theogaraj bring substantial experience in healthcare provider data and interoperability. Before founding Defacto, both executives worked at CAQH, where Urwongse managed provider-data and interoperability solutions and Theogaraj managed provider-data solutions before leading product work for CAQH’s flagship provider-data platform.
H1’s broader platform uses healthcare data and agentic AI to help pharmaceutical companies, health plans, health systems and technology companies identify and engage physicians.
At the center of the platform is H1’s Doctor Graph, which structures information covering physician identity, expertise, relationships and behavioral signals. H1 said its platform is used by 85% of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies and nine of the top 10 health plans.
Defacto has worked with payers on government compliance requirements and with health technology companies seeking access to payer and provider data. Its team has experience deploying healthcare datasets used by hundreds of payers, millions of providers and tens of millions of patients.
