Hadean, the company behind the cloud-based HadeanOS operating system and the distributed simulation engine known as Aether Engine, has raised GBP7 million as part of the third round of funding. This round of funding was led by venture capital firm Draper Esprit. Existing investor Entrepreneur First also participated along with additional investment from Aster Capital and specialist gaming investor LVP.

“We are delighted to have continued support from Luminous Ventures, our original venture investor. They have been with us right from the start, believed in us when others didn’t, provided funding when we needed it and we’re thrilled that they are continuing with us on this journey,” said Hadean co-founder and CEO Craig Beddis in a statement.

Hadean — which is powered by Microsoft Azure — allows developers and programmers to seamlessly scale their applications at increased speed and ease across the cloud. And the multi-use technology is also being used in collaboration with the Francis Crick Institute to drive their research into novel binding sites for treating cancer. Plus gaming studio CCP Games is working with Hadean on a 10K player gaming prototype, which will break the record for the most players involved in a single online multiplayer battle.

Luminous Ventures was Hadean’s original investor and funded the startup from concept and led through two seed rounds of funding between October 2016 and May 2018.

“At Luminous Ventures, we like to be the first venture investor, backing technical and scientific founders with a big vision, and daring to invest where others don’t. We have been with Hadean since the first seed round, helping find the Company its CEO, and supporting the go-to-market strategy. This is a hugely exciting time for their ongoing development,” added Luminous Ventures Isabel Fox.
