Halim Hong & Quek (HHQ), a Malaysian law firm, has appointed Dato’ Sri Mariana Hj Yahya, a former Judge of Malaysia’s Court of Appeal, as a partner effective September 7, 2026. She brings more than four decades of judicial and legal experience, including 18 years serving on Malaysia’s superior court bench. Her appointment strengthens the firm’s capabilities in appellate advocacy, complex litigation, judicial review, public law, and dispute resolution.
Mariana began her legal career in 1984 and subsequently held numerous judicial and government legal positions, including Magistrate, Assistant Director of the Legal Aid Bureau, Deputy Registrar of the High Court, Sessions Court Judge, and Senior Federal Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers.
She was appointed Judicial Commissioner of the High Court in 2007 and became a High Court Judge in 2010.
In 2021, she was elevated to the Court of Appeal, where she served until her retirement in 2025.
During her judicial career, Mariana delivered 1,629 written judgments in civil cases and 113 in criminal cases. Her experience encompasses commercial litigation, criminal proceedings, judicial review, insolvency disputes, administrative law, and property matters.
At HHQ, Mariana will advise on complex legal matters and contribute to the firm’s professional development, corporate social responsibility, and community initiatives.
Founded in 2000, HHQ provides legal services across real estate, corporate transactions, technology, banking and finance, and dispute resolution.
