Hallmark Health Care Solutions announced the appointment of AI and data science pioneer Usama Fayyad to its Board of Directors, reinforcing the company’s focus on AI-driven workforce intelligence and healthcare operations technology.
The company said Fayyad brings decades of experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, enterprise data strategy, and healthcare technology. His appointment comes as Hallmark continues expanding its Workforce Intelligence and Enablement platform, designed to help healthcare organizations improve workforce planning, physician enterprise management, compensation visibility, and operational decision-making.
Bharat Sundaram said the company has already established a strong data and intelligence foundation to support the next generation of AI-powered workforce decision-making tools. Sundaram added that Fayyad’s expertise will help Hallmark provide more actionable insights to healthcare leaders navigating increasingly complex workforce and financial challenges.
Fayyad currently serves as Chairman of Open Insights, the AI and data consulting firm he founded in 2008. He also serves as Senior Vice President for AI and Data Strategy and Senior Adviser to the President at Northeastern University, where he is the inaugural director of the Institute for Experiential AI and a professor of the practice at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences.
Earlier in his career, Fayyad became the first executive to hold the Chief Data Officer title following Yahoo’s acquisition of one of his startups. He also spent five years at Microsoft working on AI and data mining initiatives. During his tenure at Yahoo, he served as Chief Data Officer and Executive Vice President of Research and Strategic Data Solutions while founding Yahoo Research Labs.
Fayyad also founded the Machine Learning Systems group at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and later served as Global Chief Data Officer for Barclays. He additionally co-founded healthcare technology company OODA Health, which was acquired by Cedar in 2021.
According to Hallmark, Fayyad has authored more than 100 technical articles, holds more than 20 patents, and is a fellow of both the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the Association for Computing Machinery.
Fayyad said healthcare organizations are managing growing amounts of workforce, financial, and provider data while still lacking the real-time visibility needed to make coordinated operational decisions. He noted that many existing systems focus primarily on transactions rather than delivering actionable operational intelligence, adding that Hallmark’s platform is designed to provide healthcare systems with better visibility, coordination, and decision-making capabilities.
Hallmark said its platform currently serves more than 50 health systems nationwide. The company noted its technology manages more than $10 billion in physician compensation annually, supports sourcing for more than 25,000 clinicians, and is used by more than 100,000 users daily.
KEY QUOTES:
“Usama is one of the most respected and influential leaders in AI, machine learning, and enterprise data strategy. Hallmark has built a strong data and intelligence foundation to support the next generation of AI-driven workforce decision-making, and Usama’s expertise will help us deliver actionable insights more effectively to healthcare leaders.”
Bharat Sundaram, CEO of Hallmark Health Care Solutions
“Healthcare organizations are managing enormous amounts of workforce, financial, and provider data, yet many still lack the visibility needed to make coordinated, real-time decisions. Too often, workforce decisions happen in a black box. Fragmented data, manual processes, and limited context leave healthcare leaders reacting instead of planning. Most systems were designed to manage transactions, not to give healthcare leaders clear, real-time insight into workforce and provider operations. Hallmark is built to provide the intelligence, visibility, and coordination health systems need to turn that data into actionable decisions.”
