Handspring Raises $19 Million Series B To Scale Evidence‑Based Youth Mental Health Care Nationwide

Handspring Health, a virtual mental health clinic providing evidence‑based care to children, adolescents, young adults and their families, has raised $19 million in Series B financing to support national expansion of its care model. RPS Ventures led the round, with participation from new investor Angelini Ventures and continued backing from Cobalt Ventures, NextView Ventures, nvp capital, Hyde Park Angels, Cornucopian Capital, and others. The funding brings Handspring’s total capital raised to $37 million and reflects growing conviction among payers and investors in the company’s clinically rigorous, cost‑effective approach.

Handspring’s model starts with the clinician, based on the principle that high‑quality care is best delivered by investing in the people providing it. Therapists are employed rather than contracted, trained in‑house in evidence‑based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and exposure therapy, and supported by ongoing training, one‑on‑one clinical supervision, and clinical consultation groups. This investment in clinician development enables Handspring to treat the full spectrum of acuity, allowing patients to step up or down in intensity without being turned away.

The company’s Complex Care program extends this model to high‑risk youth who are often underserved, excluded from traditional outpatient services, or unnecessarily referred to higher‑level care such as emergency departments or intensive outpatient programs. At Handspring, families are matched to the level of care a child actually needs, rather than defaulting to the most intensive and most expensive option. This full‑spectrum approach is designed to reduce inappropriate escalations, improve continuity of care, and enable payers to utilize behavioral health resources more efficiently.

Handspring reports treating more than 4,000 families and growing revenue more than 10x over the last two years while maintaining strong outcomes. According to company data, 93% of families report improvement in daily family life upon discharge, and Handspring maintains a Net Promoter Score of 81, indicating high satisfaction and trust. Among patients in treatment for anxiety, 81% saw clinically meaningful improvement, and 78% of those treated for depression achieved clinically meaningful gains, as measured by validated clinical scales at the completion of care.

Since its Series A, Handspring has expanded its geographic and payer footprint to nine states—California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Washington—and added parent coaching to its offerings. The care model is powered by an integrated AI‑enabled technology platform that includes custom patient and provider portals, a proprietary telehealth experience, an AI‑enabled clinical scribe, and an AI‑powered therapist-matching engine that pairs families with appropriate clinicians from day one. The platform is designed to reduce administrative overhead for clinicians and provide a seamless experience for families, supporting the company’s ability to deliver structured, measurable therapy at scale.

The Series B proceeds will be used to grow Handspring’s clinician workforce and clinical‑development model, expand value‑based care partnerships and geographic coverage, deepen the Complex Care program and further develop its technology platform. The company also announced governance changes: Nancy Hilliker of RPS Ventures has joined the board of directors, and Sarah Fox of Angelini Ventures has joined as a board observer, bringing additional expertise in scaling consumer and healthtech businesses.

KEY QUOTES:

“Good therapy depends on the therapist, so we built the company around supporting ours, with training, supervision, and regular clinical consultation, instead of just matching families to whoever is available. That’s what lets us care for a child whether their needs are mild or severe. This round lets us bring that model to many more families.”

Sahil Choudhry, CEO and Co‑Founder, Handspring Health

“Our technology buildout has focused on making high-quality care easier to deliver, scale, and measure. We’ve built a software-enabled care platform that supports the full patient journey and spans everything our families and clinicians touch. This infrastructure is what will let us scale this level of care to far more families without losing what makes it work.”

Kwasi Kyei, Co‑Founder and President, Handspring Health
