Harness, the AI software delivery platform company, announced the acquisition of Codecov from Sentry, a move designed to bring code coverage intelligence directly into the software delivery process as AI accelerates software development.
The acquisition comes as engineering teams increasingly rely on AI tools and agents to generate code, dramatically increasing development velocity. While AI has enabled teams to produce software faster than ever, organizations are also facing new challenges around testing, validation, visibility, and governance. Harness believes integrating Codecov’s coverage intelligence into its platform will help teams make more informed release decisions while maintaining confidence in software quality.
Codecov is widely used by development teams to measure how much of an application’s codebase is covered by tests and whether it meets quality thresholds before deployment. By embedding Codecov’s capabilities into the Harness platform, coverage signals can be incorporated into real-time release workflows, helping organizations assess risk before code reaches production environments.
According to Harness, the acquisition enhances its Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, which connects deployment signals across the software delivery lifecycle. Codecov adds a new layer of intelligence through real-time coverage data tied directly to repositories and code changes. When combined with deployment history, security reachability analysis, incident telemetry, and change history, the platform is intended to provide a more comprehensive view of release risk.
Harness also emphasized its commitment to maintaining and growing the Codecov product. The company plans to continue investing in the platform while preserving the existing user experience, retaining the Codecov brand, and maintaining free access for open source projects. Codecov is currently used by thousands of engineering teams and has a significant presence within the open source software ecosystem.
The companies said the transaction reflects a shared belief that modern software delivery requires stronger alignment among development signals, operational visibility, software quality, and release governance. Harness expects to accelerate innovation around Codecov while integrating its capabilities more deeply into software delivery workflows.
In addition to the acquisition, Harness and Sentry announced an ongoing partnership focused on ensuring continuity for Codecov customers and supporting developers through integrations, community engagement, and collaborative efforts around software delivery practices in the AI era.
KEY QUOTES:
“AI is dramatically accelerating code creation, but software delivery ultimately comes down to deciding what’s safe to release and when. By bringing Codecov into Harness, we can connect coverage data directly to delivery decisions so teams can move faster without sacrificing trust in what they ship. The future of software delivery will depend on turning signals like coverage into enforceable decisions that guide every release.”
Jyoti Bansal, Co-Founder And CEO, Harness
“Sentry’s mission is to help developers see what’s breaking in production so they can fix it fast. This focus is what shapes every decision we make. Codecov has become an important tool for thousands of engineering teams, and it deserves the investment and roadmap focus to match that. Coverage intelligence works best when it’s embedded in the delivery pipeline, and that’s exactly where Harness operates. We didn’t just find Codecov a home, we found it the right one.”
