Hello Patient has acquired Converse Health, an AI workflow automation company for outpatient medical practices, expanding its agentic AI platform from front-office patient communications into referral management, follow-up, authorization paperwork, and other back-office workflows. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Austin-based Hello Patient said Converse Health adds AI agents capable of handling the document and chart work surrounding a patient visit, allowing healthcare practices to automate more of the administrative process from the first patient phone call through post-visit follow-up.
Converse Health was founded in 2023 by Louis Sallerson, Val Zinchenko and Adam Teitelman. The company raised $1.3 million and grew to serve dozens of independent medical practices across dermatology, women’s health, pain medicine and orthopedics.
Sallerson is joining Hello Patient as product leader for back-office and specialty workflows.
Hello Patient was founded in 2024 and develops AI agents for outpatient healthcare practices. Its technology handles patient interactions across voice, text and web chat, including answering calls, scheduling appointments, completing new-patient intake, answering insurance questions, processing refill requests, conducting post-visit follow-up and supporting billing and collections.
The company integrates with electronic health record, practice management and CRM platforms including ModMed, athenahealth and eClinicalWorks. Hello Patient said its platform is HIPAA-compliant, SOC 2 Type 2 certified and operates under business associate agreements with clients.
The Converse Health acquisition extends that automation deeper into administrative workflows that traditionally require employees to manually move information between faxes, patient records, clinical notes, payers and scheduling systems.
One of the new capabilities is referral and fax intake.
The AI agents can open incoming faxes, determine what type of document has arrived, match the information with an existing patient record or create a new record, and file the document in the appropriate location.
The platform can also perform chart-driven follow-up by reading clinical notes and incoming laboratory results, identifying patients whose recommended follow-up window has passed without an appointment and initiating outreach to schedule them.
For prior authorization workflows, the agents can retrieve patient and procedure information from the medical record and prepare authorization requests for staff review before the information is submitted to the payer.
The system can additionally help complete patient registration, retrieve imaging and fulfill medical records requests.
Hello Patient is positioning those capabilities as part of a broader effort to automate the fragmented administrative workflows surrounding outpatient care.
The company said healthcare practices can lose patients when calls, texts and referrals are not handled quickly enough. According to the company, as many as 42% of patient calls and texts can go unanswered during busy periods.
Administrative work can continue long after the original call, with employees manually opening referral faxes, identifying patients, filing documents, contacting patients, communicating with referring practices and coordinating with insurers.
By combining front-office communications with back-office automation, Hello Patient wants to provide a single AI layer spanning more of that workflow.
Its agents can answer the initial call, schedule an appointment and manage new-patient intake while the capabilities acquired from Converse Health can process the referral, monitor the medical chart for follow-up requirements and assemble paperwork needed before or after care.
Hello Patient said the combined platform now automates a majority of administrative work across a medical practice while giving operations leaders a more centralized view of how workflows are functioning.
The company is also reporting early operational results from deployments.
Ortho1 Medical Group, an orthopedic practice, is using the acquired back-office technology across all of its incoming referrals. Hello Patient said the system is successfully scheduling 57% of patients who engage with its outreach while cutting referral processing time in half.
At the same organization, the outbound agent booked 190 referral appointments during its first two months without requiring additional staff.
Hello Patient has also reported results across its existing front-office deployments.
At Pulse-MD, a multi-location urgent care group in New York, the company said its patient answer rate increased from 73% to 100% during the first 30 days after adopting the technology.
Across Hello Patient customers, practices booked 27% more patient visits when its agent handled phone calls, based on August 2026 client data.
The company is also applying its AI agents to patient billing.
Piedmont Urgent Care uses a Hello Patient agent on its billing line, where the system handles more than 20,000 calls per month without hold times and resolves approximately half of those calls without human intervention.
The agent can explain charges, describe insurance coverage, discuss payment-plan options and send secure payment links. Disputed charges are escalated to staff with the conversation attached.
The Converse Health acquisition expands Hello Patient’s opportunity beyond conversational AI and into a broader operating layer for medical practices.
Rather than selling separate AI products for calls, referrals, authorization paperwork and follow-up, Hello Patient wants practices to use a common set of agents capable of moving across those workflows.
That strategy reflects a broader shift in healthcare AI from single-task automation toward agentic systems that can read information, take actions across software platforms and continue working through multi-step processes.
Hello Patient said the Converse Health capabilities are already available through its agentic AI platform.
The company expects the acquisition to help healthcare organizations reduce administrative workload while allowing employees to spend more time on patient care and cases requiring human judgment.
KEY QUOTES:
“Operations leaders are being forced to bolt AI onto existing systems and buy solutions one task at a time, which is unmanageable. Practices want to redesign their workflows and decision-making around AI agents. Our AI agents carry real conversations so every call gets answered and patients’ needs are handled from start to finish. Converse Health brings the same automation to the back office, and the busywork stops landing on staff so they can focus on care instead of administrative tasks.”
Alex Cohen, Founder and CEO of Hello Patient
“The agents have been a great addition to our practice. We were inundated with incoming referrals. The agent has shouldered a significant portion of our proactive outreach without requiring any additional support from our staff.”
Jeff Craven, COO of Ortho1
“Hello Patient already sits at the front door of thousands of practices, so Converse Health becomes a natural extension. Together, we can deliver these back-office capabilities at real scale and cover a practice’s operations end-to-end with one AI layer. Doctors and their staff keep the exam room. We’ll convert more patients at the front desk and handle the paperwork before the visit and the follow-up after it.”
Louis Sallerson, Product Leader for Back-Office and Specialty Workflows at Hello Patient
