HelloPrenup: Interview With Founder & CEO Julia Rodgers About The Prenuptial Agreement Company

By Amit Chowdhry ● Aug 27, 2025

HelloPrenup is a legal tech startup that’s transforming how couples approach prenuptial agreements. Think of it as the modern and digital alternative to hiring expensive lawyers for prenups. Pulse 2.0 interviewed HelloPrenup founder and CEO Julia Rodgers to gain a deeper understanding of the company.

Julia Rodgers’ Background

Julia Rodgers

Could you tell me more about your background? Rodgers said:

“I’m a family law attorney by training and by heart. I’ve spent over a decade practicing law, representing clients through some of life’s most intimate and emotionally charged transitions: marriages, divorces, custody agreements, and more. It gave me a front-row seat to the gaps in our legal system—especially when it came to access, affordability, and empathy.”

“I was also raised by lawyers. The dinner table was often a crash course in constitutional rights and case strategy. But what I always came back to was this: Legal protection is power, and too few people have access to it.”

“I attended Suffolk Law School and earned my J.D. in 2016. This is when I first encountered legal automation tools in a course called, Lawyering in an Age of Smart Machines, which led me down the path of legal tech and entrepreneurship.”

“Post graduation, I worked as a family law attorney at a Boston-based firm which influenced my idea for HelloPrenup. I began working two jobs, lawyer by day and entrepreneur by night, and officially founded HelloPrenup in 2021.”

“Now, I’m one of the 2% of all-women founding teams in the U.S. who’ve raised venture capital, and I’m using that platform to build tools that empower real people, not just serve the elite.”

Formation Of The Company

How did the idea for the company come together? Rodgers shared:

“When practicing family law, I constantly observed the strain that financial misunderstandings put on marriages and divorces. Through talking with hundreds of clients, I found that many were looking for a prenup process that is cheaper, quicker, and more collaborative than the traditional, archaic process. I also noticed an immense gap in the number of couples who had prenups (10%) compared to the US divorce rate (40-50%). So, I began sketching the idea of HelloPrenup out on sticky notes, gathering client feedback, and working with developers overseas to develop a better alternative myself.”

Favorite Memory

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Rodgers reflected:

“Going on Shark Tank and successfully securing an investment with Kevin O’Leary and Nirav Tolia has been one of my proudest and most exciting memories so far. All the sleepless nights bringing this dream to life finally paid off and transformed into a tangible reality. This was my moment to introduce a modern version of prenups to millions of people and prove that consumer-facing legal tech can be functional and investor-worthy, while also democratizing access to justice for the estimated 5 billion people who desperately need legal resources.”

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Rodgers explained:

“HelloPrenup’s core product is a first-of-its-kind digital platform that allows couples to curate a customized prenup in less than two hours. The platform gives couples full control of what goes into their prenup, when and how they do it, and from the comfort of their own home. Additionally, it provides a guided questionnaire and online services to ensure personalized, state-specific prenups and access to attorney support for any legal questions or for full attorney representation.”

Challenges Faced

Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Rodgers acknowledged:

“One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced in this industry is navigating the stigma surrounding prenuptial agreements. Many people still view prenups as a plan for divorce, when in reality they are a tool for empowerment and love.”

“HelloPrenup actively works to overcome these stigmas and change the public perception through education, data, and empathetic conversations with our customers. By normalizing prenups, we guide modern couples to feel empowered and comfortable discussing the topics surrounding them. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see that shift take root and increase the representation of prenups in younger generations.”

“Another challenge we’ve faced is being a consumer-focused legal tech company in a space that overwhelmingly prioritizes law firm efficiency over public access. While legal tech funding has surged—more than $13 billion since 2016—less than 5% of that funding goes to solutions designed for everyday people. And even less reaches female-founded, mission-led startups like ours.”

“We’re not building tools to optimize billable hours. We’re building a platform to make legal protection accessible, understandable, and affordable for the 5 billion people globally who still lack access to justice.”

“As a woman founder, and an attorney who’s worked in courtrooms and sat across from real families, I’ve seen the disconnect between innovation and inclusion up close. And raising capital for a product that puts people over profit is an uphill battle—especially without a shiny subscription model or enterprise logo attached.”

“How did we overcome it? By staying mission-aligned and partnering with over 100 attorneys across the U.S. who believe in serving people, not just firms. We’ve built something that’s not just legally enforceable—but emotionally intelligent.”

“HelloPrenup isn’t just a product. It’s a platform for fairness, clarity, and dignity. We’re not here to disrupt for disruption’s sake. We’re here to restore balance in one of the most intimate corners of law—marriage.”

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Rodgers noted:

“With our recent funding from The LegalTech Fund, we will introduce more AI-powered improvements, including AI-driven contract optimization, dynamic legal education tools, and an improved experience for both couples and attorneys.”

“We’re integrating AI into our platform to increase speed and delivery–and we’re pilot testing it to ensure it’s legally enforceable. That said, we’ll never lose the human element that a licensed attorney brings.”

“In addition, we now have thousands of couples who have left their fingerprints and input on our product. By leaning into our consumer-led growth approach, we will continue to serve the needs of the everyday people using our product.”

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Rodgers cited:

“One of our most significant milestones was launching The HelloPrenup Podcast, which now has thousands of monthly listeners. This Q&A style educational podcast brings together thought leaders and professionals in various fields to discuss relationship advice, financial planning strategies, and inspirational stories. We’ve interviewed a variety of high-profile guests, including celebrity divorce attorney Laura A. Wasser and Bachelor star Ben Higgins. In addition, we sponsored a Kevin O’Leary officiated wedding on our Shark Tank update episode for a deserving couple who would not have been able to get married without HelloPrenup.”

Customer Success Stories

Can you share any specific customer success stories? Rodgers highlighted:

“HelloPrenup serves a diverse range of couples, including multiple billionaires, celebrities, and high-profile business owners—across both men and women—who have chosen HelloPrenup for their marriage contracts. At the same time, the platform supports couples navigating millions in student loans and personal debt.”

“One specific customer success story I remember is from a young woman, Sumi, from New York. She connected with her now husband on Bumble after experiencing a very difficult divorce in her twenties. The couple had honest conversations about long-term goals, money and expectations and Sumi was very transparent about wanting a prenup. Using HelloPrenup, the couple grew stronger through shared collaboration and negotiation and the prenup became a tool of empowerment in their relationship. When she told us ‘the prenup process wasn’t about mistrust, it was about mutual respect’, I knew we were a step closer to changing the stigma.”

“There are so many couples that have signed a prenup with HelloPrenup that otherwise wouldn’t have been able to, including: immigration couples, couples with student debt who can’t afford traditional attorney rates, Boomer parents pushing their Millennial children for a document, celebrities who believe in our mission, and more. In fact, some of our own partnered independent network attorneys have used our platform for their own prenups.”

Notable Metrics

When asking Rodgers about notable metrics, she revealed:

“We are proud that HelloPrenup now captures over 20% of the total prenup market in the U.S. Our prenuptial agreements are available in 48 states. We have assisted more than 100,000 people and protected over $25 billion in assets. ”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Rodgers affirmed:

“Marriage is the most common legal agreement globally, yet it’s also the least digitized. HelloPrenup has completely transformed the legal tech industry in its ability to automate prenups online within days while also utilizing joint collaboration. The platform provides a guided experience with built-in education and access to legal advice from over 100 trusted attorneys. It has significantly reduced the cost of prenups, averaging $599 per couple, in contrast to traditional prenup fees of $5,000-$15,000 per person.”

“In addition, unlike competitors, this company was created for people, not profit. We’re here to make a difference because we understand the law, the growing injustice with AI and automation being funded, and underrepresented everyday people. Being a litigation family law attorney with a leadership team that’s intimately familiar with family law, we understand that we’re not just selling prenups—we’re selling peace of mind and trust. We take this very seriously, especially during one of the most important life transitions a couple will ever go through.”

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future goals? Rodgers emphasized:

“We will expand coverage to all 50 states and into international markets, as well as add new legal and relationship tech products and services. We’re building strategic partnerships with financial institutions, wealth managers, wedding marketplaces and legal networks to gain further expertise. Most importantly, we continue to work tirelessly to overcome the legal system’s biggest challenge: The lack of affordable legal services for most people around the world.”

Additional Thoughts

Any other topics you would like to discuss? Rodgers concluded:

“At the end of the day, HelloPrenup isn’t just about prenups—it’s about the people who are signing them. Our goal is to level the playing field in a legal system that too often leaves everyday couples behind and empower lawyers to serve more of them. We want to prove that legal tech can be built with empathy, not just efficiency.”

“We’re proud to be part of the 2% of women-led companies that have closed venture funding—and even prouder that we’re using that opportunity to build something truly impactful.”

“Because if you’re privileged enough to enter the legal tech space, your job is to lower the ladder. And that’s what HelloPrenup will keep doing—one couple, one attorney, and one accessible contract at a time.”
